In a great acknowledgment of the people who have been instrumental in keeping our pastime in the safe entertainment arena where it belongs, Game Politics has named a number of US Judges as Persons of the Year (http://www.gamepolitics.com/).

And thus, GamePolitics 2006 Persons of the Year are Judges. More than any individual, judges collectively shaped the political landscape of gaming in 2006.

The last twelve months were a time in which video games came under attack from many quarters. State legislatures in Louisiana, Minnesota and Oklahoma passed restrictive video game legislation. Governors in those states signed those bills into law.
I couldn't agree more!

Perfect choice. It's so encouraging to see that judges who know little or nothing about games can nevertheless recognize them as protected speech.

Good choices, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't more interested in the porn in the Madden 07 game news story below. :)

lol me too even though it's an obvious forgery of a game. When I worked for GS, I had a lady swear up and down to me that the new PS2 she had just bought started playing hard core porn when she started it up. Of course, the "porn" idea didn't come up until after I'd told her she couldn't return an opened, new system. Funny how when I told her we'd need to test it in the store she changed her mind on the return.

Great choice. It's good to know that whomever chooses these judges for their jobs is keeping the US Constitution in mind.
