Eurogamer are trying very hard to fight back from their all time low with some good interviews. After Sony Microsoft is next. Check it out (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59297).
We're almost at the point now visually where we're like, in videogames, do we need better visuals than what we saw on Monday night? [shrugs] A little bit. It's not the thing that's going to sell to the next 100 million people. The thing that's going to sell to the next 100 million people is creativity; creativity for labouring, creativity from a designer's point of view and so a hard drive can provide those tools. I think we're going to take graphics to the next notch, but graphics is not going to be the thing that's going to sell to the next 100 million systems.

100 million systems? That means 100 million 360s or 100 million all next-gen consoles?
Didn't they say the same for Xbox 1? (they did)
And BTW on the PC Allard said they are targetting 1 BILLION people with the 360.
EDIT:
Epic guys say Gears is 360 EXCLUSIVE, Allard says Gears is PC/ 360.
What gives?

Wow, is it just me or does Allard talk out of his ass?
I mean, if I remember correctly they were all over the fact that the Xbox was the stronger system graphically in the last generation. Now, since they're not in that position, they're all about "creativity".
Hasn't some other company been talking about that? I can't seem to remember- oh right, NINTENDO.
It's okay Microsoft, we've always known you can't think for yourselves.

>100 million systems?
I think he means the next 100 million systems that will be sold in the next generation, that doesn't mean they will all be 360s.
I guess Epic knows best... it will probably be ported to PC if it does well on 360. MS likes to keep the PC gamers happy as well. In a way it is quite brilliant... publishers get a huge market (PC+360), use the same tools and can port only if a game does well. Err.. oh yes.. and PCs run on MS products :)

Great submission BTW, a really nice interview.
Gotta love the part where Allard ADMITS that PGR3 was "combination of in-game footage and rendered footage".
I wonder if *anything* (even GoW) shown @ E3 (for 360/ PS3) was real-time.

He's talking about the future, not what they've got this generation.

Yeah that is always the problem at E3. I usually only trust the reports from people who have actually had a controller in their hands and played the game (or somebody demo-ed actual gameplay... not just walking around). But even then E3 is full of fake stuff... remember that Halo 2 demo never appeared in the real game... so E3 is just a big showcase.. maybe MS should also have made some amazing CGI movies, maybe a bit naive of them to try to be more realistic. Then again it could backfire (especially so relativly close to a launch).

As much as I think Allard is a putz, that was a good read (entertaining if nothing else) -- he made some good points here and there.

And that makes it any different how?

Because so far, there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in power in the next gen systems like there is in the current gen. The difference in performance between the PS3 and Xbox360 seems like it will be almost negligible in comparrison.

I thought it was a very good read. I really have respect for this quote.
But our rule was we didn't want to show anything that we didn't think gamers could buy. I hope Sony did the same thing.

It was. This is from a report on Fileshack who got to see a private demonstration of GoW.
"The entire demo was done in realtime on an Xbox 360 alpha kit. Cliffy mentioned that what we were seeing was about 70% of its visual potential, which was reassuring as there were framerate issues, but that's to be expected of these E3 beta demos. Suffice to say, everything you've seen on the Internet, be it our HD trailer on FileShack or elsewhere, is the real deal."

GoW was the real deal I've seen the assets on UE3 on a PC. Ghost Recon 2, Call of Duty 2, Kameo, Condemned, Full Auto are all playable on the showroom floor. All of that is real.

Thanks, riposte101!
I wonder how many playable PS3 games are at E3 floor? (hint: it rhymes with XEERO)

Oh yeah, so was Need for Speed: Most Wanted. And that is Ghost Recon 3 was playable not 2.

How can it be at 70% if the alpha kits are 35%? I think I should just go take a long nap and wait for the E3 hype to run its course.
