EA (not us. duh.) revealed the Kane Edition of Command and Conquer 3 (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/061222/20061222005083.html) today.

Electronic Arts Inc., today announced Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars: Kane Edition (C&C 3: Kane Edition) - a special, numbered collector's edition for the PC that will ship in March 2007 simultaneously with Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (C&C 3). Filled with an enormous amount of exclusive content, C&C 3: Kane Edition will be the definitive collectible for any Command & Conquer or Real-time Strategy (RTS) game fan.

C&C 3: Kane Edition will include an exclusive bonus DVD featuring a behind the scenes documentary, deleted scenes and a blooper reel from the live action video shoots, a series of gameplay strategy videos from the game designers themselves, and more. C&C 3: Kane Edition will also feature exclusive in-game content including five new multiplayer maps and three unique unit skins -- one for each of the three factions in the game. Fans will also enjoy five exclusive wallpapers.
Thanks to ol' Blue's News (http://www.bluesnews.com/) for the heads up.

Mmmmm Kane.

I hate EA but I have to believe they'll do this right, otherwise I'll have to kill myself.

The extra content is not really that interesting, considering the skins, wallpapers, maps will be available online at day one. The making off dvd? well, depends on the final pricing i would guess.

It says right there in the article?

C&C 3 has a suggested retail price (MSRP) of $49.99 and C&C 3: Kane Edition will be available at select retailers with a MSRP of $59.99. C&C 3 will also be available in 2007 for the Xbox 360(TM) videogame and entertainment system.

Missed that. Dont think the price is motivating enough for me to dish out 60$ for it.

Ooo.... I really hope they pull this off right. It comes out right around my birthday and would be an awesome gift. This collection is also very tempting.. I'm just a sucker for extra crap and the extra $10 isn't THAT much.

We'll see.

As long as it doesn't muck up the Tiberian universe too much, I'll be happy.

I have this terrible feeling the game is going to suck, hard. The last issue of Games for Windows had C&C3 on the cover, and there were some disturbing details in the article. Huge interface buttons to accommodate the X360 version. Lack of micro because it's going to be impossible to do... in the X360 version. Basically a lot of design decisions seem to be based around the console port

I don't want this to come off as bashing one platform or the other. But at this point in the life of RTS games, the interface has evolved into a pretty complex thing, and it's 100% built around the mouse and keyboard. You might be able to squeeze that kind of interface into a gamepad (and to my understanding EA did an admirable job at just that with the LOTR game,) but at the end of the day you are still shoehorning it.

If RTS games are really going to take off on consoles, designers will have to completely revamp the interface and control scheme. Otherwise, you end up with PC gamers upset that their game was dumbed down to work with a gamepad, and console gamers frustrated at using a control scheme/interface that is counterintuitive to their input device.

And before you start, no, the Wii is not the answer to this problem. The Wiimote might be a decent approximation of the mouse, but like all other console controllers, it lacks the keys to do a proper PC style RTS justice.

Hopefully Eas will max out it's "destroy this game" quota on the x360 version. Leaving only sweet creamy goodness for the PC version.

Ugh, that's a scary thought. I agree that RTS as they are really should only be on PC; if you want an RTS for console, you'd have to design it from the ground up as one (for something that's actually good, anyways).

Say it ain't so! This trend with a variety of games, not just RTS's, really pisses me off. This was apparent in Thief 3, Oblivion and now seems to be happening with my beloved C&C franchise. NOOO!

Either make it for one platform or the other OR, if you insist on doing both, at least tailor the interface for the PC. If I have to sacrifice a gameplay element or two, I can sometimes stomach that, but having to basically mod a game to rid it of the console interface leftovers drives me nuts.

WRONG CONTINUITY!

Or is it... I thought Kane only said that in the Red Alert universe, not the Tiberium 'verse.

Man, now I'll have to go back and replay all of them...

Bonus! WOot! Post 5000!

We don't have spoiler tags because we are backwards ass internet hicks. We have to ghetto spoiler stuff by using black text.

which btw is accomplished by typing [.color=black]your text here[/color] , without the period in front of the first color.
