After the pricing shenanigans involved with a certain piece of downloadable content at Oblivion's launch, I'd have thought they'd learn not to burn their most loyal of fans. If anything, let Live users choose one of the standard content packs, or for those that have the early ones, let them have that poitn value towards Knights of the Nine. For the Oblivion fan that has all the content already... well they'll get over it.

Good for them. Their mods really are top-quality, though virtually worthless when you compare them to the incredible amount of content already available in the base retail game. I still find it amazing that they managed to meet my expectations.

Damn. Sucks to be me. I guess I'll have to wait and see if I got screwed by also paying for The Knights of The Nine when it first came out.

This and the horse armor are the only 2 DLCs I have not picked up, so I got lucky this time. I just started on the Knights of the Nine, which is looking to be a well-crafted quest so far.

What the fuck are they playing at? How dare they let people obtain something for less than its original price? It's bloody disgraceful! It's like my PC, they sell all the components much cheaper now then they did when I bought it. I should get my money back. The fact that I've been able to use it for the last three years is irrelevant.
:D
Most media goes down in value over time. You buy things near to release in the full knowledge that they will be available cheaper in the future. Deal with it.

I can commiserate with those who bought content, it's one of the things that's kept me on the fence about anything on marketplace.
I'd much rather companies be more open about price drops and content mergers over time (i.e. "New Content released on 1/30/07, it costs 1000 points. On 6/30/07 it will be reduced to 600 points. On 12/30/07 it will be released for free" and tell us this from the get go. If you release it in a correct timely conduct, it can promote purchasing content for people who buy games months after release. They pick up the free content, and since they're addicted to your *hopefully* good game, they'll pay for the newer updates...I'd love to see Mass Effect take advantage of something like that).

Things going down in price over time is not someone fucking you over, even if it goes down to being free. Am I being fucked over when I buy a game at full price knowing full well that it'll be cheaper in six months? No, I'm making a conscious decision that getting to play it now is worth the extra money.
Releasing a spangly special edition with loads of cool stuff in the box months after the original release is fucking over the early adopter, which is what happened with Baldur's Gate 2.

You’re wrong. The downloads are not the same. The horse armor was different with everybody protesting it. Other downloads have not come down in price. This is out of the blue unlike regular games where we all know they will come down in price sooner or later.

The horse armour was an overpriced piece of crap with no relevance to this discussion.
Why on earth would you think that downloadable content would stay the same price forever? The price of games (and a lot of other things for that matter) go down over time. The amount of money they make from downloadable content must be obscene. (They already have the tools, they already have plenty of experience with them. They already have most, if not all, of the art assets. The cost of all these has already been covered by retail sales. How much time must it take for them to churn out a small module?) Dropping the price of the modules in line with dropping the price of the retail game is a pretty obvious move. Offering them for free to promote sales of the retail product is also quite feasible.

This makes me very happy. Happy that I didn't download it yesterday like I was thinking about doing! Now all I need is the spelltome mod (the only reasonably priced mod I've seen for any game), and I'll play Oblivion again. Maybe I'll do the main quest this time. Nah!

The PC loving comes in the form of all the awesome user-created mods, and in the knowledge that you bought the better version of the game! :D

You have to think that this isnt a very smart move. How many people are going to sit on the fence for future microtransactions, because they think somewhere down the road its going to be made available for free? This combined with bundling fixed games with deals, instead of points, is going to make people hesitant to buy shit in the future. Bad move I say.
That said, sweet. Im not one of the suckers that bought this in the first place!!! Haha, burn bitches, burn!

I don't think it's a bad move. It wasn't the case at all with the Halo 2 maps. The majority of the people who had Halo2 and played online paid money and downloaded the new maps even though they knew they'd be free months later. Some would say they're impatient but no more impatient than a person who wants to see a movie in the theater vs waiting and renting in on DVD for cheaper.

The mod is boring. All it is is a 3 level dungeon full of random enemies. I'm glad i didn't pay for it...

oh obviously thats the issue, job standing. Maybe its not about the fact that microtrans are pure faggotry. When they start coming out with things that contain actual value in the purchase, maybe then we will not be hard on the concept. 2.50 for horse armor my ass/

While this is good news, maybe they should release some of their smaller content for free in the first place. This DLC/micropayments is becoming a little nuts. I do not mind paying a bit for substantial extras, but things are going too far.
As for all the weeping over getting shafted as an early adopter? I bought my 20" TV for $89; those who bought theirs 10 years ago for $300 were screwed over! Plus, I bought Fallout 1&2 CD pack for $7.99 4 years ago; stupid idiots bought them for $49 each when they came out, heh, got shafted! Please

Why are people still amazed about things like this? This risk has ALWAYS been there, it's part of being an early adopter. If a person gets something as soon as it comes out, they are pretty much guaranteed to be disappointed later when it comes out better (DS Lite) or, as in this case, cheaper.
Get used to it, or wait. That's why I'm not running out and buying that $25 rip-off Disney calls the "Pirates of the Carribean 2 - Special Edition" DVD set. They would have gotten my money if they handed decided to be greedy and hike the price, but now I'm pretty content to wait it out until it is cheaper.
