TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com) is reporting that Crackdown for the Xbox 360 now has an official release date. Not only that, a demo will be released beforehand so that those interested can sample the wares.

You can read more here (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12477/Microsoft-Announces-Crackdown-Release-Date-and-Demo/).

On Jan. 18, gamers will get the chance to battle their way through the roads and rooftops of "Crackdown(tm)" as the Xbox 360(tm) title's explosive demo lands on Xbox Live(r) Marketplace. And for the ultimate payback, they will combine forces in online co-op play for twice the thrills and double the retribution.*

Gamers will arm themselves with high-tech weapons, transformable vehicles and incredible, gravity-defying superskills in preparation to take back Pacific City when "Crackdown" storms North American store shelves Feb. 20.
Sweet. I'm intrigued about this one.

Please tell me Crackdown features crack. Speaking of crack (and not entirely game related), I rode the BART today (a transit train in California) when a woman next to me suddenly bolted from the train I was occupying. Immediately two BART police grabbed her (I suppose they were after her) and, with her in hand, entered the train.

They came over to where she was sitting (the seat next to me), put their hands between two cushions seperating the seats and produced a freshly used crack-pipe. They looked at me (nerdy white guy in his late 20's), and said with a straight face:

"Is this yours?"

to which I replied

"No. I do not smoke crack."

The BART police then shuffled through her bag and found the crack that she was smoking on the train. A highly entertaining commute.

I love the fact that so many games are featuring online co-op play. Best trend EVER.

Yep, that's a true next-gen feature :)

It's true, the 360 has become the standard bearer for online co-op, I only hope that this trend becomes standard across all platforms.

Oh and Crackdown, PLEASE be good!

Hopefully this game is pretty good, I have a hard time getting into games that rely heavily on shooting for combat but also use auto targeting.

Best online co-op ever goes to Syphon Filter Omega Strain.

But back on topic: Have you seen the vids for this game??? This game is going to rock so hard that the new Gunz n' Roses album will actually get released.

You can either free-aim (like a shooter) or lock on and sub-target. For instance if you lock on and sub-target a leg, the target falls down. If you free-aim and shoot the leg, it does the same thing.

Dunno about this game, the gameplay looks very derivative, and the graphics look very underwhelming.

Streets of Rage or Golden Axe 2 gets my vote! :)

I just watched some videos, it looks like GTA with super cops :)
I was hoping to hold off with purchasing a 360, but his might do it :)

Well Syphon Filter is a unique game on its own which has never been replicated. It's four player co-op that requires the players to work together. It's not just players fighting and getting through a level. It's players trying to get certain objectives done in specific times only when some other objectives are completed. As far along as XBox Live! is, I'm surprised the most in-depth co-op game in existance is on the PS2.

It's something in life that bugs me, really. This game is so great, yet nobody has played it's co-op. Because of that, devs having nothing to base great co-op on.

That was actually a pretty nice co-op video. I still think the graphics are a little embarrassing in this day and age, but the gameplay looks like it could at least be entertaining for the first few hous.

If the co-op can run smoothly over XBox Live, that would be technically impressive, too.

I'll check out the demo, and see if it can raise my inclination to purchase the game.

I'm generally not interested much in sandbox games, but I'll give the demo a try. The coop looks interesting and I'd like to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

I played the Saint's Row demo and wanted to try the full game, but there just wasn't time. If I had more time, I'd probably go with Dead Rising first... I can't believe I've yet to even rent that either. The Crackdown demo will get a look from me and if it's really good, maybe more.

Shit, the good games coming out next year start too soon. My meagre wallet is barely able to support what I want from the last few months this year.

I've seen it running. I have not played it but the overall vibe is of deus ex meets gta. I'm definitely intrigued although I wish it was less bright and cartoonish but hey.

I'm looking forward to this one.

Although the art style is strange I reckon it will be a lot of fun. Super cops with super trucks, cars and 4x4 in a GTA world = crazy. :D

This is not my type of game but the co-op does indeed look tasty. If reviews are positive this might be a buy.

I completely agree. Halo 2 was a huge let down for me because I assumed they would add online co-op.

It's about time they figured this out.

Does anyone remember the old Crackdown game - by Namco I think - arcade and MD/Genesis? 1990-1? Top down, shooter/maze/puzzle game - , almost like a MG rip off to some degree - I remember that had some cool 2p co op mode.

For some reason I always think of that game when I hear of this game .

I look forward to playing this demo.

Do you think the graphics are very advanced? Or that the art style they chosen is embarrassing?
