Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz/) is reporting that the Microsoft/Burger King line of promotional Xbox/Xbox 360 games has now reached double-platinum status (combined).

Microsoft and fast food giant Burger King announced today that the Burger King line of promotional Xbox and Xbox 360 games have sold a Whopp(er)ing 2 million copies combined.

The Blitz Games-developed Pocketbike Racer, Big Bumpin’ and Sneak King feature hilariously disturbing Burger King icons such as the Subservient Chicken and the King himself.

The titles, compatible with both Xbox and Xbox 360, sell for $3.99 each with the purchase of a BK Value Meal.

Russ Klein, president of global marketing at Burger King, said in a statement, "Most video games are considered a blockbuster when they reach the 1 million mark in sales, and this collection has achieved twice that, thanks in part to the great value for the money and convenient holiday stocking stuffer appeal."
That's a lot of Value Meals.

It was the embraced kitsch factor of the King on the part of Burger King that made these games a success. Expect corporate America to be oblivious to this fact and begin cranking out all manner of bargain title garbage for fast food, breakfast cereal, tv shows, and every other medium that needs markets towards kids.

Actually me and about 6 friends were completely absorbed in 'Sneak King's gameplay. It is fairly fun and relatively simple gameplay, of course we had our 'Lets make fun of this game' hat on, but none the less I felt proud to be crowned a Sneak King :P

Yeah I had a blast playing Pocketbike Racers with my brother over thanksgiving weekend - was totally worth it :)

Whoever came up with this advertising campaign deserves a serious raise and a huge pat on the back.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the executive suite, to hear how they see this having increased foot traffic and sales at stores from the same period the year before. That would be highly interesting!!

And these sales ought to persuade some developers they are in the wrong line of work...or that their marketing department SUCKS!

Two million...unbelievable...

Or maybe that there is a market for games made cheaply and sold at a much lower price point. Kind of like Episodic games... but with less episode.

Good call there. I can see it now - "One free team of your choice for Madden NFL 08 with purchase of any Happy Meal. Team will be added to the two teams you get for free with the retail version of Madden NFL 08. Residency restrictions apply."

Oh man, Sneak King had me enthralled for several days. There's something about jumping out of a stack of hay to asassinate someone with a grease-wrapped burger. I say asassinate because if the scare dosen't give someone a heart attack, the cholesterol surely will. :)

Why thank you! (Takes a bow). I'm here all night folks, tip the waiters.

I've been reading evilavatar for awhile now, ever since I discoverd the joys of getting all my game news at once on gametab.com....so I decided today what the heck I'll join in. Thanks for the warm welcome though!

Word is the BK games are pretty good. The only one I got was pocketbike racers, which played pretty well but showed a clear lack of polish in the AI ‘death match’ levels. Sneakking seems to be the one to get.

Keep in mind that these games still have to meet with the console manufacturer’s approval before they’ll be allowed on the system.

These games were great for what they were. Sneak King was hilarious but repetitive, and right now I'm checking out PocketBike Racer.

So, wait, are these things still out?

Because I keep hearing awesome things about Sneak King, and Pocket Bike Racer sounds like it'd be worth the 4 dollar entrance fee. This is also the first I've heard that they work on the Xbox, which I actually have.

If so, I'm totally running down to BK tomorrow. I can totally stomach their crap if I get to do something as eerily amusing as be a fast food stalker.

Oddly enough, they're good games even for their price.

Does this mean they'll be "Greatest Hits" or whatever the Xbox equivalent is? Now they're only $2.99!

That said, if I could find a Burger King around me (they're remarkably scarce in my neck of the woods) I'd grab Sneak King and Pocket Bike Race... They sound like a lot of fun.

I feel sad for this thread. People will actually buy shit food like Burger King soley for a bargin-bin-at-best game? I know as gamers by nature we are bored, but shiiiit. In any event, I attribute this 2 million to parents and their kids' babysitter, the Xbox.

Or, hey, they could actually be fun games...

Umm... I'm not really sure your elitism has a place here, or why you came to this thread just to disparage it. Myself and my room mates have had much fun with the bumper cars game. The AI is actually quite passable as well.

Shame (for me) there's no PAL versions on the horizon....

With no BK's in Australia (the franchise is called Hungry Jacks over here - long story...)
the best I could hope for is a European release....

You know, even though it seems to have gotten the least buzz, "Big Bumpin'" (the bumper cars game) has gotten the most play on our Thursday night get-togethers when my wife and I have around 15 of our group over for dinner, Survivor (egh...), and then whatever else hits the fancy, be it videogames, board games, or a movie. Apparently, there's something to be said for a really simple, really competitive, easy to pickup and play game that's random enough that most players (regardless of their skill, within reason) will win at least one round after playing for a while.

I thought Pocket Bike Racers was a little bland, although I have no regrets purchasing it; makes for a nice pick-up-and-play distraction for 30 minutes at a time. Haven't had a chance to pick up Sneak King yet; they were out last time I went to BK. :(

And what's with the hating on BK food? Their burgers are really quite good, they make decent fries, have great onion rings, and they serve cola. What more do you want out of a fast-food burger joint? (Can't say I recommend the fish sandwich, though. :) )

You can still get Sneak King and the Bumper Cars thing from my local BK, the Pocket Bike Racer was sold out when I was there, but there are BKs on every corner around here.

'Big Bumpin' isn't getting the love it should. I have all 3 and BB gets virtually all the playtime. Hockey kicks ass.

Sneak King has got to be one of the most original game concepts ever.

It will be interesting if this leads to free Live Arcade games for advertising. The BK games brought in the foot traffic for BK, but after the success of this I could imagine free games to promote movies on Live or big advertising promotions "Geico caveman racing" anyone?. Maybe we'll get to the point where you can play new content on you xbox for free so long as you're willing for it to be advertising based.

Free Live Arcade games.

Fuckin ay right motor.

I like where this is going.

I have to agree with Motor. I'd personally kill for a Geico Caveman game, myself.

I was kind of upset about this, not because I hate Burger King or anything. I love the King commercials and a few weeks ago my friends and I all went out to buy value meals to get all the games.

No, I was mad because I had a somewhat similar idea about a year ago. I thought it would be a great campaign to have some sort of world of warcraft item codes at McDonalds or somewhere. Kinda like the monopoly tear offs, only you could get additional quests, armor, weapons, gold, etc, and it would all be "exclusive." This idea is flawed, because most people that buy McDonalds wouldn't care proportionally. However it would be a definate boost to sales at McDonalds (or Taco Bell or where ever) and WoW would gain even more national exposure.

None the less, great ad campaign and great exposure for the 360. Kudos.

Four player Big Bumpin' hockey is awesome. Easily the best feature out of all the Burger King games and a great party game.

pocketbike racer is awesome, except for the construction track which can die in video game hell.

Ditto for my rating of pocketbike racer. Pretty awesome game for what you pay. I really thought it would be like 1 track with 3-4 characters. All in all, many more options than I expected. And all for a few bucks. Kudos BK & MS.

Uggg. I'm not paying for advertising, period. I don't know if I should disgusted that so many people bought those corporate abortions or relieved that at least they were self contained self proclaimed adverts and not something more sneaky and subversive.

I got lucky and didn't have to buy any food for my games, not that I don't like the food, but it was nice to just purchase the games. Just had to flirt with the chick at the counter for a few minutes and she handed them all over for 12 bucks. Thank god it wasn't some old hag that day or it would have been a lot harder lol.

big bumpin bumper cars is by far the best of the 3.

I got bored of sneak king a little fast but well worth the 4$

pocketbike is also quite fun, specially since there are no "kart" like games for the 360..
practically as good as a mariokart knockoff like crash racing for 1/8th the price (but DEFINITELY is no mariokart).

plus 200 achievement pts make all 3 a must buy, and is 1$ cheaper than a live arcade game..

Yeah, freakin construction level is hell to naviagate around. I definately had the most fun with Pocketbike, overall.

I completely agree with the big bumpin being the best of the three.
Sneak King as a second and Pocketbike comes in third.
All of the games are basically great though.
I was exited when I first heard about them and had to have all three.
My dreams of being the King have been fulfilled!
