Gamespy (http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/726/726093/imgs_1.html?ui=rssFeed) has a bunch of screenshots up of the PC RPG Gothic 3.

Looking good, but I'll still take Oblivion first.

WOW, I really dont know how much longer I can wait.

I'm thinking I'll enjoy this more than oblivion, just based on how I loved gothic2 and morrowind felt like a world full of mannequins to me.

Word is that the full-lenght trailer (not a teaser) will be released shortly after E3.

There's also new artwork screens over @ RPGDot: http://gothic.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10053&ID=1123

And here's the press release: http://gothic.rpgdot.com/index.php#38674

GOTHIC 3

You have saved your home island from the forces of evil in Gothic I and Gothic II. Now it is time to travel to the realms of the mainland.

Invading Orcs have enslaved the human kingdom. There are but a few free humans in the icy north and the southern desert and a handful of rebels hiding in the forests and mountains of Midland.

You may either join the rebellion or serve the Orcish Usurpers but you will ultimately tip the scales and decide the outcome of the last war to save humanity.

There is no simple linear story in Gothic III - every game will be different and unique - but all will ultimately lead to you deciding the fate of humankind.

Features:

* Specially designed easy combat system
* Clear main goals - story driven yet dictated by player's choice
* Huge free-roaming world - virtually no boundaries
* Advanced human behavior AI for hundreds of individual characters with full audio dialogues
* Countless side-quests for the player to choose from
* Over 50 different monsters and animals and dozens of human enemies
* Over 50 different powerful spells and over a hundred different weapons
* Unique class-free character development

my main concern with Gothic 2 was that it felt so wonky controlling the character, especially in combat. Oh ya and the fixed 3rd person camera.

If they fixed that I'd be down for this ;p.

Really pushing the boundaries arent they. Gothic 3 or Oblivion? Doesnt matter, us gamers are in a win/win situation whichever way you look at it.

My God those screens are amazing. I'd argue even more realistic looking than Oblivion. Look at this one (http://pcmedia.gamespy.com/pc/image/article/616/616832/gothic-iii-20050518095529609.jpg), see the shape of the cliff and the forest in the background, not to mention the excellent textures on the buildings' shingles. This is phenomenal.

With Gothic One - I hated the combat system until I got used to it. There was a learning curve because it was different from what I knew. The story and everything else on Gothic One was a blast. With Gothic Two - because I was used to the combat, I really enjoyed everything about the game except being limited in the number of magic you could use (fixed in Night of the Raven - which will hopefully come out here). GOthic Three - droolllll. As for Oblivion - as someone said, we gamers win-win.

These gfx could be mistaken for a 1995-2000 CGI cutscene. 10 years and we have it realtime on our homepc's in high resolution. Really impressive work.
I really want to walk up to that tower and take a peek.
:)
I like Gothic2 more than Morrowind because it had excellent full speech. And people actually responded to what you were up to even if they weren't important. Full speech is one thing - Gothic2 went the extra mile and made speech for all sorts of situations. In other RPG's people only talked if they were important to the gameplay. So you quickly look for NPC that talks. In Gothic2 that was not possible and the game immersed me like no other did.

I played the demo at E3 and the controls are still confusing. Also the game was running choppy on a high end box.

I'll upgrade for this one when it comes out, probably more than a year from now, and I for one am hoping they keep the confusing controlls. Once you figured them out it was very versatile.
