If you've ever seen an American cartoon then you are probably familiar with the work of Joe Barbera.
Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Johnny Quest, Scooby Doo and Space Ghost are just some of the many works Barbera created in his over six decades in animation as a writer, director animator and producer.

Hanna-Barbera were the closest to the definition of an "animation factory" as you can get. Truly prolific artists. Adult swim ensures that the work they created as a duo (good and bad) won't be forgotten easily.

A lot of his cartoons were what got me started as an artist. He will be missed.

How did you feel about Chuck Jones? He's probably my favorite of that 30 year timespan or so.

I'll never deny the incredible influence Hanna and Barbera have had in animation but I will say I always though their cartoons were relatively weak... at least until the Scoobie Doo animated movies (Escape from Zombie Island was killer... and had some great self-referential humour) and the more modern stuff they did as part of Cartoon Network.
Nonetheless the man was a pioneer, did a lot for animation and his passing is indeed a sad sad thing.

Another legend passes on . Cartoons have not been the same in the last 20 years as i'm sure they will continue to evolve. Cartoons were meant for the simple senseless enjoyment of anyone who watched them and now they are evolving to unorthodox violence sex and crude jokes. Sorry to see you go Joseph.

He had a good run of things, so it's not unexpected. Still, RIP to one of animation's pioneers

I thought Tom and Jerry was stronger than Scooby-Doo. And what modern-day Cartoon Network stuff are you refering to? I'm not sure they did anything new with CN.

You've got to hand it to a guy that does something that keeps on giving even after he's dead. So many generations of kids grew up watching those toons... and so many more will.

I agree. I actually think very little of Scoobie Doo the TV series (the animated movies they made in the 90s spent so much time poking fun at the things I didn't like about the TV series I couldn't help but like them) and most of the other animations the studio put together at that time.
Tom & Jerry was much more akin to the superior Looney Toons animations from Warner Bros, especially the stuff Chuck Jones worked on (which makes sense for obvious reasons :P).
Regarding CN, shows like Johnny Bravo came out of HB Productions. I should have mentioned that when I was talking about HB I was talking about the production company not just the two men.

Ah, I see you are well schooled. At its best, Tom and Jerry was up there with the Road Runner cartoons in terms of the rhythm and pacing of the action and animation.

Ahh, right. I forgot about that stuff.
