I had mixed expectations; I'm a realist. Games in development often have low framerates and shoddy AI. They're not done. Of course they do. Today, I saw a demo of Perfect Dark Zero running on a Xbox alpha kit (a PC) using an old ATI graphics card, not the final GPU from the Xbox 360, and was told the game was only using about 25% to 30% of the system's full power. And Perfect Dark Zero looked incredible. Incredible. It looked nearly as good as Gears of War, which, in my humble opinion is the best looking 360 game of the show so far (I saw that running in realtime too). So, simply put, Perfect Dark Zero shocked me.Looks like perhaps MS still has some tricks up thier sleeve?

I trust IGN about as far as I can throw a very very heavy rock that I can't throw very far at all. I'll believe it when I see it.

EDIT: As Dragos said, gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/x360/action/perfectdarkzero/preview_6125530.html?gmRedir=1) agrees. This definitely looks legit.

Yeah, that article doesn't smell right at all. If it is truly as visually impressive as Gears of War, why would they possibly hesitate showing it off now?

I'm gonna assume the game isn't in a state where Rare wants to show it at all, and Microsoft is forcing them to show it since they want it to be the crown jewel of their launch.

Funny how this article comes out after the massive public outcry of "That game looks like crap, boo Microsoft." I can almost imagine the guy from IGN standing in front of me, saying "No! It's really nice! I've seen it and everything, and it's totally rocking!" while attempting to conceal a very large burlap sack with a dollar sign on it. Show me the video, or this article has no merit in my eyes.

edit: i've been laughing at that image of the IGN article writer in my head for the last 10 minutes. everyone, try it, it's great!

I say just ignore the stuff about any games until we get closer to the actual release date. I'm not going to worry about what looks good now and what looks horrible - what matters is how it looks when it's released and we're paying to play it.

Microsoft "may still" have tricks up their sleeve? Really guys, the way people were reacting when specs for the XBox 360 were filtering through media outlets and J Allard was giving away HD TV's and claiming they were going to usher in the "HD Era?"--that's the way a lot of you are acting now with the PS3 and all the so-called revelations about what the two systems can and can't do. The Xbox 360 isn't dead, or dying, or on it's last legs. No software for either system has even been completed! There gets to be a point where all the speculation stops being fun, and begins to sound really fucking retarded.

Some EGM guy over at GAF says it still looks like crap.Well then I officially retract my enthusiasm. I just need something, a short trailer, anything to convince me it won't be a bag of bollocks. Is that too much to ask?

The IGN article stated that Rare is confident they can get the game running at 30 fps. Weren't there Dreamcast games that ran at 60 fps?

This is what happens when you read IGN and actually make yourself beleive the stuff they write.

What am I saying exactly? Anyone can turn an ugly picture into a Mona Lisa, but you have to be able to see the bigger picture to really understand what's going on. Perfect Dark Zero, along with the other 39 or so titles coming out later this year for the Xbox 360, isn't finished. The CGI footage, the limited power of the alpha machines, and the screenshots should be proof enough that PD0 is a long ways off from hitting Gold status and coming to a store near you.

There's no "trick" up anyone's sleeve. The "trick" is thinking that what you're looking at now is how it's going to be in X months.

There are games for every system that run at both 30 and 60 fps. Tv only runs at 24. Most people find it hard to tell the difference between 30 and 60. When frame rates drop is when you will notice a difference and whatnot. If it is locked at 30 fps and never lags or stutters (like the original was plagued with) then it will be just fine.

Hehehe. This game is a joke, along with Rare.

I agree in some ways this game looks like a joke. In one hand, i view the orignal pd as a fps shooter with a scifi hud and multiple use guns that were very unique for the time (laptop turrent anyone? or dare i say the duel TMPS?). Anyways, my point is this, if another game attempts something in this genre of fps games, you might not see this game with such a shine.

In the hype machine, it seems that having more up your sleeve regardless of substance is king, just look at Sony. Seems all they had to show was smoke and cgi.

It's so good, Peter Moore introduced it at the MS conference, and then showed footage of Kameo instead and said NOTHING about this obvious flub afterwards. It looks so awesome that they posted those total garbage official screenshots because they wanted people to have a bad first impression!

This isn't about Xbox 360 vs PS3. Gears of War looks awesome, and it's running in real time. This is about people being astounded that Rare can work on PD0 for this long and have nothing great to show for it!

I hope it is a good game. I hope all 3 console makers release amazing games, its better for everyone that way, there is no reason to wish ill will on any company or their games. That being said, who at Microsoft decided not to show perfect dark zero at the E3 Microsoft press conference after making it the major part of what little substance was revealed at the MTV show. and a further question to that why does that person still have their job.

I defer to what I said about Nintendo. Now is the time to show things. If they didn't, it is because they had nothing or merde or because it wasn't close to complete and to show it now would give the impression of nothing or merde.

Man, looks like Duke Nukem Forever will beat Perfect Dark Zero. That's $20 down the drain.

I wonder why more people haven’t been talking about Kameo, the game looked amazing and it was running in real time when they were presenting it, unlike the PS3 stuff that so many people are fond of. The presenter was running around in a battle with 2,000 fully modeled characters each fighting each other with pretty good AI. PD0 isn’t on display there in any public way so I have no idea what it looks like. Unlike the PS3 they have a few playable 360 games on the show floor. It’s amazing how many people will side with tech-demos over actual games though.

Also Shadow of the Colossus looks great (random off-topic), as does Battlefield 2

Why aren't people talking about Kameo? Because we talked about it too much three years ago, and we're fucking sick of hearing about it. I really couldn't care less about what Rare does these days, as far as I'm concerned they weren't that great to begin with, and over the past few years they've turend into a vaporware development house.

30fps?!?! I thought those days were behind us. Lower the texture quality or poly count or something and give us 60fps

You'd beleive it whether it was made up or not. I was just stating the obvious, not going in for the kill. Other people here seem to beleive that it's too early to tell, so why can't you be a good little soldier and follow in suit?

That's right. Microsoft knows that Rare is slow in getting their projects out the door, but yet they insist on sliding us more sides of Kameo than we can handle.

Kind of makes you wonder why everyone is still debating over the unfinished product known best as Perfect Dark Zero. Maybe if I lay it out in the form of a plan to diffusing a bomb, it'll help clear up the situation.

Diffuse Plan:

Basically, if we connect the red wire of slowness to the blue wire of uncompleted projects and cross them both over with the black wire of hype, you get pretty much everything we've seen from the Rare/Microsoft scene. Now, if we cut all of those wires off and leave them alone for another 6 months... maybe we can try to reattach them and see if things make more sense then.

I appreciate you doing my decision making for me and no I wouldn't. Perhaps thats why I used a word like "perhaps" in my comment after the article.

Obviously everything that comes out now must be taken with a grain of salt.

Thanks again for knowing it all.

I feel like im listening to my little brother and his friends argue.

Obviously, like what's been stated many times, PD0 is not ready to be shown, but MS is forcing it. The game will be fantastic when ready, but why would Rare want to show a game that is currently not in a good state? Think about it....

I would think for most of you all the time, but...shit. Why the hell do I have to state what's been said? Most of you are going on and on about the wrong subject.

And funny thing is....I don't know anything. But I'm still using my head!

I wanted to reply to some of statements that was posted a lot earlier, I had some activation problems so I couldn’t before, and this alpha build that MS demoed could have some really bad bugs in it that MS wouldn’t want to show to the general public. Form what I remember from IGN’s killzone review rebuttal reviewers sometimes given games to review that are not the final gold masters, and these games have known bugs in it that will be fixed by the time the gold version comes out. What’s important is that these reviewers/pre-viewers can look past these bugs and not affect their opinion of the game while the general pubic would be really mad if they run into a game debilitating bug where as a pre-viewer would be bound by an NDA so they couldn’t even report on it even if they wanted to.

You caught me. I didn't see the whole "perhaps" thing in the original post, but I suppose that's irrelevant because my original argument was against the content of your post (that being the IGN article).

This was obviously one of those "going in for the kill" opportunities and I apologize.

I was about to retort when I realized that you were agreeing with me.

Five games... two years… Rare. Haha, Allard is such a joker sometimes.
