Ever thought, "Man, that game in the movie Grandma's Boy looks SO COOL!"? If you own a 360, you'll actually get a chance to play it. According to gaming blog The Last Boss (http://www.thelastboss.com/post.phtml?pk=1783), after being started and stopped multiple times the game has picked up a publisher, and has officially been given the green light:

The fake game they were developing in Grandma's Boy is actually going to be developed for the Xbox 360, under the name Demonik. The games been in limbo for a while, but it's now being developed by Terminal Reality, and published by Majesco. Demonik doesn't have a release date announced yet, but since they can reuse the 3D models from the movie it shouldn't take excessively long to develop.

I was at first skeptical about it, but you can find an official Xbox game profile of it here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/d/demonik/default.htm), and a trailer for the game here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/viewer.aspx?productId=1060&assetTypeId=2&shotId=0). Clive Barker's writing the storyline? Sweet.

Um, it was never fake. It was very much in development, then cancelled just before Grandma's Boy was released.

I normally consider Clive Barker's association with anything to be a negative thing, hopefully it doesn't hold this back too much. ;)

That movie was hi-larious, so of course people watched it. "Dude, I can't believe you came on my mom..." BEST LINE EVER.

Just so everyone knows, Grandma's Boy is not an accurate representation of what being a videogame tester or working at a videogame company is like AT ALL.

Well no shit. I somehow doubt the truth would make an interesting movie though.

I never like arguing over movies. It's pretty much the exact same argument as "You like TURKEY sandwiches? Are you fucking stupid?!"

...And I'd let her raid my tomb, if you know what I mean.

...wait... that didn't come out right..

Yeah, if it didn't "come out", you probably weren't doing it right. ;)

You clearly never worked as a tester at Interplay. Everything else was retarded but the testing dept. was pretty much spot on for Interplay.

Demonik was shaping up to be a decent action game, and a nice successor to Terminal Reality's Bloodrayne games.

From what I remember, Majesco pulled the plug on Demonik when they started having financial problems, and focused more on bringing over value priced games, like they used to. It seems that they are financially viable again (and probably wanted to recoup some of their investment in the development of Demonik, as it was only a few months away from completion, it seems).

Now where is Bloodrayne 3?

Really? I thought the battles in LOTR we're real. Now you're going to tell me that Spider-Man isn't real either :(

Maybe that's why Interplay is flipping their books to Chapter 11. :D

The trailer sucked... very very much.

The graphics, the narrator, the story, everything was really below average.

The movie is nothing I'd ever watch, and this game looks like a very, very bad Xbox 1 title.

hahahaha, what a horribly goofy title.. man, those 13 year old boys are going to eat this shit up.

Oh, and the asian lara croft seems very much an ultimate sex appeal character... guns, videogame, asian. Just like... add a lightsaber and cat ears and no geek without self-respect could resist.

I was there with Returner from 2000 - 2004. Well, at least I was in QA until early 2003.

Except for the part of QA telling Devs how to fix things. That never went over well. :)

I remember being curious about this game, before Grandma's Boy came out. It looked interesting, but then it died. It's nice to hear they're back to working on it. Hopefully it ends up being decent.

As for Clive Barker being involved, I'm definately interested in that. I loved Undying...

I worked for a video game testing company in the 90s for almost 4 years and Grandma's Boy got our office environment almost spot on. We had a break room with tons of games, had our weirdos with robot voices, people slept in the office after testing some cool new game all night and we always competed to see who's better at any old game.

Grandma's Boy may have glorified some stuff, but this movie was a flashback of my past.

The most memorable part of the movie was the cringing spasm I went through after, when showing off Demonik, the boss says, "The bump-maps look Miyamoto-esque," and the guy replies "Thanks, that's what I was going for." Gah! He doesn't even do art anymore beyond maybe some sketches, and the GameCube wasn't exactly a system known for its bumpmapping capabilities (I can't think of any Nintendo games that used them off the top of my head).

And that was after someone had made a joke about name-dropping!

Oh, and the robot voice was hilarious the first time. And the second time. And then it made me angry.

The new thing seems like bringing old ass threads back to life, so here I go...

I just watched this movie and I laughed my balls off. The robot voices and everything. I like so thought it was going to be shitty.

That's weird that you brought this back, because a coworker and I had just had a lengthy conversation about this movie tonight at work. I was going to pop it in, until I forgot that I still hadn't watched "Good Night, and Good Luck." on HD-DVD (I've had it from Netflix for far too long).

On that topic, if you haven't seen "Good Night, and Good Luck.", do it. I highly recommend it, especially if you're into history, broadcasting or both.

Do you think it'll really be anything beyond novelty value? I would love to have hope, but I'm afraid this one will go into the pile with all of the other "official game of the movie" failures.

I think the game is finally dead again. But that doesn't make the movie unfunny.

\robot voice - Listen to MrBeowulfe, this movie was funny enough.

Side note: Gay Robot in the background is so far from the gay robot pilot. Nick is funny either way. My roommates aren't nearly as cool.
