As E3 kicks off today, CNN/Money (http://money.cnn.com/2005/05/18/technology/personaltech/e3_nakedgames/) takes a look at the escalating trend of sex and nudity in video games. Last year's 'naked games' like Leisure Suit Larry and Playboy: The Mansion weren't big sellers, but that hasn't stopped publishers from trying again. And this year, Jenna Jameson has her own game as well - and it's exactly what you'd expect. The really interesting part is how many people are willing to pay for it.

You have to wonder about Morris's intelligence...who writes a column about nudity in video games two days after the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 announcements? Talk about missing the boat.

I just don't get it. If you really want naked chicks and have no girlfriend, ability to get one or social skills, isn't porn cheaper. Why would anyone pay videogame amounts of money to possibly see nipple when there are cheaper alternatives. The nipple to dollar ratio must be really bad on these so called raunchier games. But then again people must be buying them.

For that crowd of kids that arn't old enough to buy porn, their parents have supervised control of their internet, but they can waltz into any wal-mart and buy a game regardless of it's rating.

Switcher: I doubt that is true when it comes to "adult" games. Americans are uber-desensitized to violence, so maybe that underage kid can go buy Bloodfest III at Walmart and no one will care, but something tells me that he'll have a harder time walking out of the store with a copy of Playboy: The Mansion, if it's even for sale at Walmart in the first place (I wouldn't know I don't shop there ever). The hyper-sensitivity around sex and nudity is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, but I can't think of any other crowd that could buy it...?

It's an online subscription based game, for those of you who don't bother reading before posting.

I'm 19 and they carded me at Wal-Mart when I picked up Chapelle's Show Season 1.

In other words, some kid ain't gonna walk out with a copy of Leisure Suit Larry without a parent/guardian near by (at least, I'd like to think so).

Playboy: The Mansion sucked
and the new Leisure Suit Larry was a disappointment. When they started making the game they must have had a conversation that went like this.

Guy 1: Leisure Suit Larry was an awsome game that had sex that you had to earn through hilarious puzzles.
Guy 2: Indeed, but we need to dumb that down because the demographics show that nobody who plays games has half a brain now.
Guy 1: Really? What demographic said that?
Guy 2: The homeless guy that lives in a dumpster behind Dairy Queen.
Guy 1: Fair enough.
Guy 2: So it's agreed then, we rape the series and instead of good puzzles, we'll put in simon sez puzzles.

So, we skip the mature games to go straight to porn? I guess actual writers and realistic clothing is probably more expensive than jiggles and the color pink.
