View Full Version : Assassin's Creed meet Beans Spilled

While most of us probably already figured out that Assassin's Creed (http://assassinscreed.uk.ubi.com/) isn't really set in the old timey Dark Ages, one of the game's voice actors let slip a bit of storyline.

SPOILER ALERT Highlight text to view, but only if you want to uncover huge plot secrets...“(Assassin’s Creed) is actually really interesting to me. It's sort of based on the research that's sort of happening now, about the fact that your genes might be able to hold memory. And you could argue semantics and say it's instinct, but how does a baby bird know to eat a worm, as opposed to a cockroach, if its parents don't show it?"

The mouthy actress continues, "And it's about this science company trying to, Matrix-style, go into peoples brains and find out an ancestor who used to be an assassin, and sort of locate who that person is. It's very, very cool, and I've seen all the graphics for it. We just recorded all the dialogue and did all the face scans and body scans, and I'm really excited about it.”

Oh, Kristen Bell, (http://news.spong.com/article/11334) you should be expecting a call from Ubisoft.

D'oh!

Should there be a big *SPOILER ALERT* in the title? That's an incredibly major plot point given away there.

Just sayin', is all...

Oh, and if Jade Raymond gets medieval on her ass, I want front row seats. And it better be in slow motion with feathers flying around the room.

Not to beat a dead horse, but maybe the entire quote should be darkened. Even that first paragraph is major, IMO. Completely takes it from historical fantasy to sci-fi.

Umm...I hate to say this, but that's really not a spoiler. Game Informer did a huge write-up on Assassin's Creed awhile back, and they had a good chunk of what she said in the article and interview they did with Ubi. I'm at work, or I'd dig up the issue and give you even the page number.

This doesn't suprise me. A while back a huge chunk of screens, art, models was leaked from Ubisofts hq. Amongst them showed screens from AC and it made it pretty obvious.

How hasn't anyone heard of this yet? I've known of the Sci-Fi elements since the first E3 Trailer of the game. I thought it was common knowledge by now?

The stuff about gene memory was uncovered months ago. This isn't anything new.

Elysium
12-14-2006, 06:06 AM
This whole notion of genetic memory and the general arc of the triliogy was pretty obvious. The various hints from Jade and the X06 demo kinda pointed very strongly to this idea, but there has been no official confirmation.

That was a VERY good call, DangerousDaze!

This young lady probably just emasculated (I know...she's female, not male...I like the word) her future voice-over career with Ubisoft, if not with more companies as well.

Medieval / Sci-fi... all that's missing is giant insects attacking the Assassin ;)

This new revealed premise seems interesting, but I think I liked the Medieval idea better. The game should still kick ass, however.

It's more likely Ubisoft's fault for not having it's actors sign a NDA if they are trying to keep story bits from getting out. If you did work on a project like that and didn't sign anything wouldn't you think it's ok to start talking?

And it's not really that much of a spoiler....only thing that would surprise me at this point is if the midieval parts are only a small bit and most of the game is in a sci-fi setting.

Funny, after I saw that picture of her the same thing came to my mind... O.o

I find it hard to believe that anyone hires this woman to do voice acting.

Personally it seems to me that this is taking valuable time from her far more rewarding career of posing for the camera in her underwear.

Heavens to murgatroid.

Anyone who has been following this game will know that a time travel element was part of the game. For those that weren't following it, at which point do you deem the discussion to the background story a "spoiler". Is this when the game is released? When Ubisoft say so? 2 weeks form now? When you have the game in your hands? What does this spoil exactly? Sites such as EA and pretty much all other gaming related news sites will be posting Q&A's and previews in the not so distant future, so its going to be pretty hard to ignore the "spoiler".

Anyone following the game even a little should have this information by now. I was afraid this was a real spoiler but it's basically just pseudo confirmation of an already pretty well known bit of info about AC.

Well the story was almost as good a kept secret as the fact that it wasn't a PS3 exclusive.

12-14-2006, 07:13 AM
This is about as much of a spoiler as that in Prince of Persia you had a magical dagger that could turn back time.

I really think I have known all that was said in the quote before.

Adam Blue
12-14-2006, 07:29 AM
I've got to add, even though it has been said...this has been known for quite a LONG time. I even talked about it in various AC threads we've had in the past.

Maybe this was supposed to be a secret? Maybe people just don't really care about this game.

The sequel will take place in another time period as an assassin, with the same gameplay. Think PoP and its sequels.

Wyrm
12-14-2006, 07:35 AM
Yeah, I thought everyone had heard that it had Sci Fi elements to it. I remember reading it on this very site.

Goronmon
12-14-2006, 07:41 AM
You know, I don't know how much I like the Sci-Fi twist to the game. I loved Star Ocean: Till the End of Time right up into the point where *spoiler*You realize all the main characters in the game are actually just characters from a large virtual world.*spoiler*. I don't know, that realization kind of ruined it for me and I stopped play shortly after the story hit that point.

Regardless of what information is "leaked" you should still treat it as "spoiler" information. For example, I went out of my way not to see any pre-release material for Star Wars Episode 1. It was actually suprisingly easy even with the media blitz it was recieving.

I had not known anything about assasin's creed save the stuff I read in passing about how the menu screens look sci-fi-ish or something. It's entirely possible for people interested in the game to not have heard anything about this, and I think we should help them to do that if they so choose.

I don't have a 360 or an PS3, so my interest in this game hadn't really evolved past glancing at some screen shots and downloading a video or two. I didn't know jack squat about the plot until now. I doubt I'm the only one who didn't know this.

Genetic memory was used in the "Altered States" movie with William Hurt in 1980 to great effect.

Yeah. If you go watch the demo that was reposted in the news not to long ago, right at the end of the demo when he dies, there's a splash on the screen about "something they can't really talk about right now" so pause it, and read it. It's not much, but it confirms said "leak" pretty blatently.

Also, the white flashes and popping she says are kind of buggy and to ignore, I dunno if that'd be a bug or not. Who knows.

Reminds me when Kirsten Dunst leaked the villians for Spiderman 3.

Consider my interest in this game increased three fold, and my interest was already high. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3, Alan Wake, Final Fantasy XIII, and MGS4 are all also big games I'm hyped for.

Yea that clues you in on the game being scifi-ish but tells you nothing about what the scifi side actually involves. Whereas this does and so it's still a spoiler and one i would have been happy to do without.

Yeah, the pause screen makes perfect sense now. I watched the demo video that was posted yesterday and was wondering if the pause screen was for an entirely different game; now it all makes sense.

It was in Game Informer, there was E3 shit on it...I guess I'm just surprised that people are all up in arms about this being 'spoilers'.Just because the information is available doesn't mean its not spoilers to reveal plot points. "Spoiler" isn't exclusive to unreleased content. I make it a point to not watch an episodes "previews" for the next week's episode because its too easy to piece together what will prolly happen (or won't happen) from the scenes they show. So, I can sympathize with people who don't want to know too much about the plot of a game before they buy it.
