The Guardian has apparently send some game programmers/designers to E3 and they talk about what they see on their "blog". Some interesting reading (http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/games/archives/2005/05/18/ps3_and_360_battle_it_out_in_the_specs_department_ what_in_the_world_do_they_mean.html)without any bias.
High-Definition, High-Definition, High-Definition. It's all about HD. Both companies are "totally stoked" about the HDTV revolution expected to take the US by storm (propelled by the media, of course), which should saturate the market with screens twice as detailed as current widescreen products. Of course, because both Sony and Microsoft purport to be releasing media centres, this means there'll be plenty of HD for non-gaming applications. For interactive software, however, the PS3's announcement suggests that the graphics in the machine are twice the current market leader on PCs.

I got the vibe he liked the PS3 more.

Not a bad article, but the guy is a moron. He seems to think that PS3 has 7 3.2Ghz cores.

Am I the only person that doesn't give a rip about HD compatible consoles?

Actually, the Guardian didn't sent "programmers/designers." They sent "journalists." :D And while Ms. Krotoski didn't nail everything perfect, I have yet to see a single explanation of the Cell architecture that didn't instantly bring a hundred people shouting it false. Sony really needs to explain it better, apparently.

And Abednigo, I also could give a damn about "HD."

Everyone at E3 does.

The PS2's graphics are approximetly seven billion times better than the Dreamcast's.

I certainly "give a rip" - I paid good money for an HDTV set, and nothing has been more frustrating this generation than buying games that don't take advantage of it.

I give a rip too, and I don't even own one yet. Primarily because I've been holding out for a reason to buy one. With the release of HD-DVD and these two consoles, it will finally be time for me to bite the bullet.

For interactive software, however, the PS3's announcement suggests that the graphics in the machine are twice the current market leader on PCs.Which would be necessary, seeing as the launch of the PS3 is 1 year away and new graphics cards are released approximately every 6 months. It is very possible two new generations of graphics processors will have been released by PS3's launch.

ATI and nvidia already have 512 mb models of one or two of the higher end cards, there just isnt much point in them. most 256 mb cards cant even fully utilize all the memory they have. so more powerful gpus will probably come first or with them.

For some reason this article piques my interest in the Revolution more than either the 360 or PS3. Sony and MS seem locked in a battle to the death over pixels, framerates and convergance, but the Revolution suggests fun games. Which would you rather have? An d I don't even like Nintendo.

I want to see the "innovation". But I would like to play some of those old classics and the price should be right.
