IGN previews MotorStorm

IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/749/749979p1.html) spent a little more time with MotorStorm (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/749/749979p1.html) and had a chance to play a few more levels of the game. I have been looking forward to this game and this preview has me even more excited. If it was not for the lack of online play in the Japan version, I would preorder to get a bit early.

If you've seen both the in-store and downloadable demos, you'll know that the PlayStation Store version is newer and showcases a much tighter framerate. The build we played yesterday is even tighter, only shying away from its rock-steady pacing once during our rather extended look at the game, and we're confident that was simply a pre-release fluke. Indeed, the game is running great at this point and it's looking a tad bit cleaner as well. Some particle effects are a little smoother and many of its post-processing effects, like the motion blur, are a little more refined. The game also appears to move a little quicker - not enough to mistake it for the next Burnout, but worries of a slow racing experience are certainly a thing of the past.

I am. The demo was ok (the only PS3 game I've actually had any time with so far) but I really enjoyed the motion control. It took a bit to get used to, but I know I'll definately end up using that in the final release. I'll be picking up a PS3 around April and Motorstorm is one of the games I'll have my eye on.

I'd be excited about it.. but it's a PS3 game. If it goes multiplatform i'm there. I'm sure it will sell a copy to all 5 PS3 owners in the US though.

I agree- this game looks alright, kinda like a beefed up ATV Off Road Fury. I just can't get that excited for an off-road racing game. But to each their own.

See, that's the mature way to word things. You're not trying to pull off some 'witty' slight at the PS3 or saying it's 'not worth getting excited over' because it's not on the 360. A game is a game regardless of the system it's on and belittling it because it's on another system is just stupid. Hell, I don't own a gaming PC but I can sure as hell appreciate good games for the PC. The same goes for the 360, PS3, and the Wii.

I've owned any number of nintendo handhelds, and have a significant library for advance and ds, but if I think MG Portable Ops on PSP is a great gaming experience, I must be a Sony fanboy.

I enjoy the hell out of Gears of War and Viva Pinata, but if I like Okami, FFXII, and think Resistance:Fall of Man has promise, I must be a Sony fanboy.

Eventually, a bunch of us will own a ps3 and the ps3 threads on this site might become more that a playground for dimwitted 360 tools. Before every 360 owner out there reads that and gets their collective panties in a wad, realize that saying there are dimwitted 360 tools out there isn't saying that all 360 users are dimwitted tools---same holds true for every platform.

Question...can you play the japaneese version on US PS3s? I might import if you can.

If I am not mistaken PS3 games are not region coded. Playasia.com has it listed No Region Protection. I want to order the import but the Japanese version does not have online play. That is the only thing keeping me from importing it. I hope they continue to not region encode PS3 games.

I think it looks cool. Best full presentation of exciting car crashes yet. I'd even say better than Burnout. The only question I have is, what depth does it offer? It seems like it'd lend itself to crazy epic races from the scale of the environments to the carnage. But will the races be interesting enough to play beyond the wow factor of crashing.

Motorstorm and Resistance are two good reasons to own a PS3. I will probably get this and resistance to play when the PS3 comes down in price 2008.

It's spaced far enough apart that it would be worth it. It comes out in Japan later this week and it doesn't come here till what...March? Consider it Motorstorm 1.5 when it comes here with added online play.

Check out the 1-Up Show(video) episode 56 for November 17. They had a really good video of MotorStorm in Action. It looks like ATV on Steroids, Bikes, Buggies, ATVs.

I like the 360, but the fanboy comments are pretty sickening to even me.

Motorstorm looks awesome. I played the demo for a bit at the local best buy and I'm sorry, graphically it kills a lot of 360 games. At times, it can look nearly photorealistic. Before you bash the game, or say it isn't anything to be excited about, go try the demo at a kiosk. The Best Buy had it hooked up to a 42 inch plasma and the thing looked amazing. I haven't the slightest idea if it was playing in 1080p, 1080i or 720p, but it really looked great.

Unfortunately they had NFS: Carbon playing on the 360 right next to it, so it looked even better. They could have popped in PGR3...that at least would have been nearly a graphical equal.
