Konami sends along word that a new title in the popular Castlevania series will be coming to the Xbox and Playstation 2 this fall.

Konami Digital Entertainment - America, a division of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., announced today that the Castlevania franchise will make its debut on the the Xbox video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in fall 2005 with Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. While past Castlevania games have focused on the struggle between Dracula and the Belmont clan, Curse of Darkness introduces players to an entirely new storyline and main character – Hector, a Devil Forgemaster, and former Lieutenant of Dracula. Told in true Castlevania style by award winning producer Koji Igarashi, this action-packed tale of betrayal and revenge takes players on a journey through an expansive world filled with formidable foes and beautifully rendered environments to the ruins of Dracula’s castle.

“Castlevania: Curse of Darkness takes the series in a fresh new direction – complete with new heroes and villains,” says Matt Knoles, Product Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment – America. “And with the title being available on both the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and Xbox, a much wider audience of gamers will be able to enjoy this new Castlevania adventure.”

Oh god no. Don't ruin it. This is one of the only franchises that hasn't been screwed.

Uh...it has already been screwed. The N64 titles were 'ok", but HoD was crap, and LoI was fucking awfull.

But there's still Aria of Sorrow and the sequel on DS. Just avoid the 3D ones like the plague and everything'll be ok.

Oh I kow AoS was excellent. I was just pointing out that there have been eff-ups. The DS game looks great though. Don't really care about drawing on the boss. I would have prefered touch screen inventory, like switching magic or using items.

If only it could be made by the team that did Symphony of the Night for the original Playstation. IMO, that was the best Castlevania game ever. I still play it from time to time.

It is. And they did Aria of Sorrow which is very close to SotN, and they are doing the new DS title.

Be in 2D or there'll be hell to pay! Not a single 3d iteration of Castlevania has been worth a damn, and SotN and AoS are easily the best Castlevania games ever.
