1up (http://www.1up.com) has the scoop on the new Metal Gears in the works (http://ps2.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3140657) (no pun intended) Snippet time... Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting an update in the form of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, and Metal Gear Ac!d will see a sequel on PSP, but the real story is Metal Gear Solid 4 for PlayStation 3. The game will take place in a post-Metal Gear Solid 2 world, and promises to continue the story of what happened in the wake of the cataclysmic events in that game's ending. Solid Snake and Otacon will return, as will Meryl Silverburgh, the first game's female lead who was mysteriously absent in the sequel. "Many other characters" from the MGS world are also said to be returning, which no doubt includes series villain Revolver Ocelot.

A new PSP game is announced as well. It looks like Snake is going to have his work cut out for him....

Edit: Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) has a video from the announcement and it's hilarious. (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/adventure/metalgearsolid4/preview_6125268.html?gcst=mgs4_demo_ps3_051705.asx&tag=gs_hp_topslot_click)

God damnit.
while i'm happy that MGS 4 is comming out, i'm pissed about MGS 3 Substance. From now on i'm just going to wait for the substance edition of a MGS to come out with loads of extra goodies then pay full price for the regular game.

You really thought there wasn't going to be a MGS4 on the PS3?

Not really. But here's to hoping it's a continuation of the MGS2 story. Not some flashback, past conflict bullshit. Good 3rd game, but i wanted more Liberty story (for closure purposes...that story was so convoluted that I was more confused than satisfied at the end)

Um, and the title of the post is wrong. Subsistence, not Substance.

:D

Like I just discussed with my friends, I'm sold. My lust for Metal Gear related nonsense is insatiable, and I have been dying for a continuation of the MGS2 plotline (although in my opinion MGS3 was the best of the series).

Sign me up for a PS3. I'm there.

Show me two of the following in a game, and I am sold now and forever:

Metal Gear (any version)
Revolver Ocelot
Solid Snake
A storyline that requires 40 hours of brain-hurting analyzation to make any sense at all.

Hell, give me one and I'll skip class all week for it. That's what I did for MGS3.

I don't think my wife will allow me to justify a PS3 purchase based on the Metal Gear series alone (heresy, I realize), which is why I'm going to have to convince myself not to tell her....

This is fantastic news. I too have wanted a continuation of the MGS2 story though I wouldn't mind a bit different direction in the story-telling: moveable camera, a bit more forward of a narrative, and less Snake repeating everything someone says to him over the Codec.

"Metal Gear is in the Bunker"
"The Bunker?"
"Yes, it's a fully armed walking Nuclear device."
"Walking?"

And, the possibility of a new PSP venture also has me excited. Loved Ac!d. Should be an interesting couple of years within the MGS world.

I always get that giddy feeling the first time I play through a new Metal Gear game, when it comes to the point where David Hayter says, "...Metal Gear?!?"

Ugh..goddamnit, I'm going to end up buying both these consoles even thought I don't need to. Says a whole lot about my self-discipline.

Anyway, I really enjoyed that video. The 'easter eggs' I thought I caught were the Ocean's 12 parody (that's what it was, right?) and the Dragon Ball Z reference when Raiden and Sam were grappling. Anyone catch anything else?

Remember when the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty trailor made people's jaws drop at E3? Remember when it actually came out? A lot of jaws dropped then too. A sham it was for different reasons.

That video almost had me rolling on the floor. I instead chose to just sit in my chair and laugh hysterically at the screen.

What the hell happened to MGS Online?

Killer news regardless.

And to those who have no idea what MGS2 is really about, then I highly suggest reading this (http://www.insertcredit.com/features/dreaming2/).

Wait a minute....how did I miss this? When was an online version of MGS announced? Is it an MMO or just MGS 3 with online(ish) features?

Apparently the rock that I call Ohio is very difficult to crawl out of.

It's part of Substinence, 4 Vs. 4 and 7 Vs. Snake.

Even though mgs3 got great reviews. Mgs2 fubar'ed everything for me so badly that i could never ever pick up a mgs game again. Even though i worship mgs1.

For those who lost interest in the series after MGS2, I was in the same boat. Thought the story and the twists in MGS2 were ridiculous. But I gave Hideo one more try with MGS3 and I gotta say, I was surprised at how good it was. Particularly the ending, when taken in context with the original games. If you haven't rented it, you should give it a whirl.
