Pepsi Corp and Microsoft Corp announced today (http://www.gamegossip.com/pressrelease.php?id=13382) a new contest that will start August 28th and run for 9 weeks up to the XBox 360 launch. Pepsi will be giving away an XBox 360 Console every 10 minutes during that time period; 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.To play, consumers will collect codes found under the caps of Mountain Dew and other participating Pepsi products, and enter codes in a personal online account at http://www.every10minutes.com. Participants will be able to choose which 10-minute drawing to enter, and can spread codes across different drawings or stockpile codes and put them all toward one drawing. In addition, codes entered will automatically earn the participants points toward obtaining collectible merchandise and gear.

If my end of day math skills serve me right, that's almost 10,000 XBox 360s, 9072 to be exact!

One hacker will win all 9072, then sell them on ebay for 3x the original price.

You forgot one key detail: if you win one, you get your console BEFORE it even hits stores.

I drink some where around 100oz. of soda daily.. most of it Mountain Dew. So if my fat ass serves me correctly, I'll be owning several 360s in no time.

How much longer before? Surely not August 28th if you were one of the first to win.

I wish I knew the answer to that. Here's exactly what the PR said:

LOS ANGELES - May 17, 2005 - Today at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2005, Microsoft Corp. and Pepsi-Cola North America announced a U.S. promotion to put the Xbox 360 TM next-generation video game and entertainment system from Microsoft into the hands of thousands of lucky people before the console hits store shelves. Beginning Aug. 28, Mountain Dew, Pepsi's intense citrus soft drink, and Xbox® will select a winner of an Xbox 360 console every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for nine weeks straight in the "Every 10 Minutes" promotion.

If I am reading this correctly, they will probably give away exactly zero XBOX 2's.

Participants will be able to choose which 10-minute drawing to enter, and can spread codes across different drawings or stockpile codes and put them all toward one drawing.

That tells me that Pepsi is going to pick a code, if that code wasn't entered in that specific 10 minute drawing, nobody wins. Woo Hoo! I'm all excited to drink Horse Piss (or as Pepsi calls it, Mountain Dew) for a 1 in 15 billion chance of winning a new XBOX. Thanks a lot Pepsi and Microsoft.

When I first got the PR, I knew it was too good to be true. I'm sure someone out there will win, but not me (I haven't touched a soda in almost a year).

Actually, I think the codes are just there to confirm that you've bought the soda. One code = One entry into the drawing. They then draw from the codes entered.

Damn, wish I hadn't given up soda. And I must not go back just for this (and I'm going to keep telling myself this over and over). Bladder infections suck.

Time will be everything. Save up as many codes as possible and enter them all when everyone in the US is asleep or just getting up. Or maybe when the East is stuck in traffic.

If you can enter in advance, it makes the most sense to enter immediately, because as it gets later in the promotion, more people will have entered. If you enter in real-time, then yeah, wait until 5am EST.

Wonder if it will be like the iTunes thing where you can read the code without opening it so people end up with bunk codes.

That's not what the rule says. It says that you pick which drawing to submit your code to.

Say you have 500 codes and submit them all for the August 15th, 8:00pm drawing. You've eliminated yourself from all of the drawings before and after that because you are only playing the August 15th at 8:00pm drawing. If you don't win on that drawing, you won't win. Basically, you have a better chance at winning the lottery.

That's the saddest thing I've ever heard. You should live the caffeine-free life, you'd enjoy life much much more. I sure do. And you won't be so fat.
