Insomniac's, Eric Ellis has revealed in his latest blog that the company is currently working on a new patch for Resistance: Fall of Man. There hasn’t been much information released on what changes this patch will make but we do know it’ll make some balance changes. The word from Eric is:

“We've addressed a few key balance issues and put a big focus on making it possible to more effectively use a variety of strategic and team-based tactics in the game. I'm very excited to see how people like the change when it releases. That should happen very soon, so stay tuned.”

More details can be found here (http://www.strategyinformer.com/camp/newsarticles/blog/496).

has a console game ever been nerfed before?

I'd welcome the balancing if it's warranted. Hell, you're not paying them anything after the initial purchase, so the really don't need to do this.

Online gaming services seem like a double-edged blade for console games to me. On the one edge multiplayer is nice. On the other it's let patchware migrate from the PC to consoles.

I suppose it's not so surprising, though. Microsoft has no experience in environments where things have to work properly when they are shipped out the door so it's only natural they would be the pioneers bringing consoles into this era. ;)

I don't see how patching is bad in this case. There are some balance issues that only really stand out when you have a lot of people gaming online.

I don't think anyone was claiming otherwise.

Microsoft has no experience in environments where things have to work properly when they are shipped out the door so it's only natural they [Microsoft] would be the pioneers bringing consoles into this era.

The claim is that Microsoft's software development models require the ability to ship early, patch later. That's why they brought this capability to the console arena as well.

Thanks for the update but I am not a complete idiot. It is commonly accepted that Microsoft's Xbox Live service is leading the way in bringing console gaming into the online space is it not?

Heh, it might actually be a decent thing to discuss considering that Gabe Newell used to work for Microsoft, but more along the lines of who ripped off who.

the free one that they make money off of selling games and getting % off of?
nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, is free in this world.

As a delivery system for games, both Live and Steam are free.

Last I checked, Steam didn't offer online multiplayer, which is a pay service on Live.

Aren't they both free?
