While I'm impressed with almost everything I saw at Sony and MS's conferences, the art style and gameplay mechanics presented here get me more hyped then any ammount of soldiers/mutant/cyborgs shooting each other with better lighting/polygons.

It's a damn shame that amid all of the next gen console hype that the games that will be for sale this coming holiday look pretty poor in comparision. Maybe all of the retail outlets will be kind enough to hold off on any big holiday promotions except for the 360.

Nintendo, of late, has always done their own thing when it comes to the games on their console. Metroid Prime and its sequal are quite a bit different than other FPS games and the Zelda games are no different. I applaud Nintendo for at least trying to be different. Sometimes it pays off (Animal Crossing). Sometimes it doesn't (can't really think of an example though I'm certain there is one). Perhaps Nintendo isn't going for the best looking game ever but the most interesting story, plot, originality, etc.

It's been said that Half-Life was original for an FPS not because it was an FPS but because it managed to create an original story that hadn't been done as well with everything that came before it (PC FPS genre).

For me, I think the game looks interesting. I haven't followed it closely but by the time the game is ready, I'm sure there will be plenty of hype for the game.

Game boy advance comes out, zelda oracle of ages and seasons launch for game boy colour.
Nintendo DS comes out, Zelda Minish Cap releases for Game boy Advance.
Revolution comes out, Twilight princess launches for Gamecube.

Seems as though nintendo likes to use zelda titles as an incentive for the new consoles too, they're like a "new but established" game that people can buy when they get the new system.

I really doubt Nintendo is going for "the most interesting story, plot, originality, etc." From what I've read, this game doesn't play that differently from other Zelda's (I'm ok with that by the way.) I've also never played a Nintendo game that had a very good storyline. They're always ok, but nothing special. Nintendo's games are almost always super polished and loads of fun. That's what is most important isn't it?

I agree. Artistically, that game was/is incredible and no amount of insane high-rez-realistic shiny car can top it. Maybe I'm took hooked on Saturday morning cartoons. Who knows.

In the US, Majora's Mask came out the day before the Playstation 2 launch. Good chance Twilight Princess will come out within a few days of the next Xbox.

I love the way this is looking. I remember the first GC zelda shots (http://gr.bolt.com/articles/gamecube/gamecube3b.jpg) before wind waker's whole cell-shaded thing started and how excited I was about them. Wind Waker turned out to be great anyway, but seeing this kind of art in a zelda title again - except even better - is still like a four-year-old dream come true.
