I loved Far Cry... so why am I unimpressed with this?

It's mighty impressive technically (albeit generic), but there is of little interest in the gameplay or story for me.

No really the start bit of that vid looks all wrong, the walls are too flat shaded and ambiently lit. Then the rest looks the same as Farcry. I know it has better physics and all that.... but meh. Want sumat different.

This is extremely impressive stuff.

The water, characters (faces), vegetation etc. is beautiful. The walls and certain textures are probably chosen due to the art direction and not because of engine limitations or poor texturing.

I like them for not compromising on the PC version because of console-compatability- issues. I think its gonna be a great game.

Maybe I am a bitter disillusioned gamer, but this seems like a marginal upgrade at best. The water *does* look good, but none of this represents the HUGE bump we have been promised by DX10. Moreover the frame-rate is choppy, you can see textures loading, and the art direction is uninspiring.

This just looks like Far Cry 1.5.

To me, the only thing to look foward to about this title is the forest, everything else looks last gen, especially after Gears. Im honestly more excited about the new Turok game coming out than this, just has more potential. I think this game needs dinosaurs.

Maybe it's the lack of shadow craziness that we've seen in all the other videos, but something about this one just doesn't seem to have the level of detail of the others. The original videos are incredible, this one as was mentioned earlier doesn't seem like such an overwhelming upgrade.

Thats what I was thinking too, this one looks more real more current generation than the pants exploding surrealistic demos they kept showing before this one.

In all fairness, this flythrough is of a multiplayer level (mentioned in the demonstration this was taken from). Usually, multiplayer levels are a wee bit less impressive than the rest of the game.

I was really impressed. There were a ton of nice little things going on that added to the realism, but all very subtle. I think actually sitting at a computer and controlling the action will sell it for a lot of people.

Well, sell the game, not the ridiculous hardware you'll need to run it.

I was a Vista hater myself. Well, I have it installed on a machine for some testing and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it. It's damn pretty and it transfers files PC to PC about 25% faster than XP to XP (about 300 Mbps). I do notice when you transfer files from a Linux box, it's about 1/2 the speed of XP to Linux. I'm using it with TVersity to stream video to my 360. It works damn well.

If I had a game like Farcry with better graphics and physics, I'd buy it. FC's my favorite FPS for the past couple years.

I would buy a true Far Cry sequel even if it had no graphical upgrades whatsoever, just some gameplay refinements and new missions. Certain levels of Far Cry (ones without Trigens, basically) rank in my favorite gaming experiences of all time.

This "fly-through" demo was first seen 5 weeks ago (just before GF8800 launch) as a low quality ShakyCam™ version.

Gotta agree with Rogueski all the way through this thread. I mean come on guys, look at the screengrab of the marine dude in the first image. He might look ok but good God what have they done to the scenery in the background?

Flat, no texture, horribly lit. As for outside, does this game come with a pair of sunglasses, or do I have to turn down the gamma to near zero levels to get anything resembling an accurate shadow?

Heh... Realtime Ambient Mapping looks much better than the stupid Doom 3/F.E.A.R. style lighting/shadows. Next year, when you're playing the game, you'll see what I mean.

EDIT: Or just maybe that scene was not shiny enough... yeah, that must be the reason why you guys weren't impressed ;)
