GetGames.ca Hosts Video Game Launch Party at Club Lucid
Media Release #2
St. Catharines, Ontario May 16, 2005 – The new video game rental service in Canada, GetGames.ca, is holding one of the most prestigious video game parties in Canada. The service allows members to rent an unlimited number of video games every month and have them delivered right to their doors, anywhere in Canada. GetGames.ca only just opened its doors to the public last week, and wants to invite gamers to help celebrate its launch.
“At GetGames.ca, we love games. We are all about games. What better way to celebrate a video game company, than to hold the coolest video game party!” says Keith Makse, President of GetGames.ca “To hold the coolest video game party, we had to find the coolest location.”
Club Lucid, 126 John Street, Toronto, ON was result of much searching. “We wanted a venue that provided a great venue that was cool and had an appeal to the tech-savvy video game players out there”, explained Keith Makse. The party will be held on Tuesday May 31, starting at 6:30pm.
Over 400 people will be allowed entrance to the party, but to be guaranteed entry, people will have to RSVP on the GetGames.ca website. Door prizes will be included, including Sony’s new PSP, the Playstation Portable handheld console. There will also be other giveaways at the door and throughout the event. There will even be an as-yet-unnamed multiplayer tournament for a GetGames.ca Prize Pack which includes a 3 month free subscription to the video game rental service.
With multiple stations playing the latest and hottest titles on Sony’s Playstation 2, Microsoft’s Xbox, and Nintendo’s GameCube, this will be the greatest video game party in Canada. “We found it interesting that Club Lucid was built on the old site of Playdium” notes Keith Makse. Playdium was Sega Entertainment’s high-tech interactive and virtual entertainment centre at that location until it closed.
Fantastic prizes and giveaways will entice gamers to come out and have a great time at the coolest video game party ever held on Canadian soil.

Anyone who is 100kms within Lucid ought to check it out. This club kicks ass...a little expensive, but the music on the ground floor is f'n awesome (Saturday nights).
But as for GetGames.ca and claiming themselves as "Canada's premiere online rental club", never heard of them, and highly guess that 99% of Canadian gamers never heard of them either!
I'll be goin.

/gag on gamers not knowing where a cool club is
But.... if the club is going to be a gamer event, then... where will all the hotties be? As I don't goto most clubs as they tend to be sausage fests.

I got Lego Star Wars and Ace Combat 5 after two days (I'm in Acton). I beat LSW and got to try out AC5 instead of going out and buying them new/used. It's cool because I went into EB on Thursday and looked around and rather than impulse buying some of the new stuff I've heard about, I just thought, "I need to put that game in my queue." This service is going to save my bank account. Very nice.
I'd love to go, but alas, I've got a baby and a wife. Such things do not permit clubbing (aside from the one I'd get from my wife if I went).
As for nobody knowing about them, they DID just start last Monday. I've been getting the word of mouth out myself. I think if they can start buying TV ads, that'd help get the word around. But I'm impressed with the service.
They are probably Canada's ONLY online game rental service (not sure if Blockbuster does it up here yet). Zip.ca does movies a-la Netflix... I don't think they do games, whereas GetGames.ca seems to be more along the lines of a Gamefly service.

I'm gonna skip this event. Free stuff seems good, but they forgot to mention that it'll be cheap-stuff.
Anyways, it's gonna be essentially a NerdFest (aka ComputerFest).

To reiterate the press release, the free stuff is a chance to win a Sony PSP Value Pack (Gretzky NHL & Spider-Man 2 the Movie), a 3 month free account to GetGames.ca (worth approx. $75), and other prizes that haven't been mentioned yet. Since it is on a Tuesday night, it's going to be a private party. There will be multiple gaming consoles setup for multiplayer games, and a huge screen setup for the multiplayer deathmatch. Even if you don't want the free stuff, the party will be awesome!
