Straight from Activision comes word that Raven Software's upcoming DOOM 3-engine title, Quake 4, will be ported to the Xbox 360.

id Software announced today that it is bringing QUAKE 4 to the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Currently in development by Raven Software in cooperation with id Software, the game will be debuted at the E3 Expo in Activision's booth #1224 in the South Hall on May 18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

"QUAKE 4 utilizes the power of our groundbreaking DOOM 3 engine to transport players into a war-torn science-fiction universe graphically realized like never before," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "We're excited to bring the next generation experience to a new breed of console game fans."

QUAKE 4 is the first game to utilize id Software's revolutionary DOOM 3 technology. In the game, you are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad and Earth's valiant invasion force. Fight alone, with your squad, and in hover tanks and mechanized walkers as you engage in a heroic mission into the heart of the Strogg war machine. But, in this epic war between worlds, the only way to defeat the Strogg is to become one of them. Battle through early missions as a deadly marine, then after your capture as a marine-turned-Strogg with enhanced abilities and the power to turn the tide of the war.

QUAKE 4 has not yet been rated by the ESRB. For more information on Raven Software, please visit www.ravensoft.com. (http://www.ravensoft.com./)

I really liked Doom 3, but that is comedy gold.

Thankfully it's being ported to the XBOX 360, and not made for it then ported to the PC 2 years later.

This is great. I have always loved the quake series. Nothing I would love more than having a better-than-Halo shooter on the next box.

I don't know why you people keep referring to this as better-than-Halo. The gameplay mechanics of Quake and Halo are very different (Not to mention the differences between each of the episodes in the Quake series). Even though they both fall into the same genre, they have very different features that can't easily be compared. In Halo, you have rechargable shields, no health, a 2 weapon limit. In Quake you had armor pickups, a health meter, 10 weapons at your disposal. They each appeal to a slightly different aspect of a similar crowd, but to authoritatively say that one is 'better' than another just seems a little silly to be... especially because 'better' in this case is purely a matter of opinion.

I liked Halo 1 and 2, and I liked Quake 1 and 2. IMHO, they are all great games.

Obviously, ports always suffer some loss in quality. The XBox 360 will be a powerful console, but it will be sub-par to the PC. Hence, the PC version of Quake 4 will be the best version, and also out way before 360's.

Don't worry. In mere months you'll be able to listen to complaints about how: Quake IV rips off Halo, and, Quake IV is not enough like Halo.

This and the "halo killer" statement made me laugh. What are you guys on?? Yeah, like Quake 4 is gonna have more than mediocre gameplay...

Halo 2 was a dissapointment, but if you even think it's in the same league as id/raven single player games, you really don't have a clue.

Hmm. I dunno, I'm thinking the performance of the 360 will FAR outstrip what they're developing for Quake4 on the PC. Q4 is using the Doom3 engine, which is running well on today's PCs. Imagine that same technology running on a better-than-top-end of today's PC.

Not to mention the whole 'unified platform' which allows developers to really flex the muscles of the console and take programmatical shortcuts. How else do you explain Doom 3 Xbox running on a measly 64mb of ram, which INCLUDES video ram? If they can get D3 running on 64mb on the Xbox (which is freakin' 4 years old), then Q4 running with 512mb and a SHIT-HOT GPU should look amazing on the 360.
