Relic and THQ have announced (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050516/lam074.html) "The Outfit" for Xbox 360.

The Outfit allows players the option to choose from three playable squad leader personalities, each with their own specific skills and abilities. With their squad leaders, players will guide two squads of battle-forged soldiers on missions ranging from reconnaissance-and-rescue to search-and-destroy across immensely destructible battlefields. Players can switch between squads at any time and can strategically use squads separately, in tandem or as one super-unit. By engaging in combat with the enemy, players will earn action points that can be used to upgrade their arsenal, order in tanks and many other vehicles, build machinegun nests and anti-tank emplacements or call for air or artillery strikes.

Sounds like a bit of Full Spectrum Warrior combined with Battlefield 1942 combined with Brothers in Arms combined with Mercenaries with a dash of Battlezone thrown in for good measure. The question is, will this be "just another World War 2 game" or will it successfully combine the good elements of the above mentioned games.

Not trying to start a flame here, and I really do mean that.

Anyone else here *not* like squad based games? Perhaps its just me, but I hate dealing with the stupid AI and having to manage so many things at once. I much prefer the standard FPS where its you and an arsenal that rivals most 3rd world armies against the world. If you dig the squad based games, this isn't an attack on you. I just don't and would like to know if I'm the only one.

I'm okay with the more scripted type games like Call of Duty, but overall, I like to work alone.

When I play a squad game, I tend to just move my guys into reasonably defensible positions and then scout by myself.

Or I just don't play squad based games.

I can sympathize with you on that. I usually avoid squad based games because issuing commands to brain-dead AI squad mates seems to be too much of a chore a lot of times. But then I don't like tactical shooters either so I guess that is proof enough for why I don't like squad based games since most of them are tactical shooters. Now Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, for some reason I don't mind that game, despite its tactical nature.

I'm not so much excited about squad based games as much as I am about any fps or third person action game that has strategy elements like base/structure building.

I like squad based games.
I'm just sick of WW2 games

Yeah, but it is relic. Ever since Homeworld I am always ready to see what innovation Relic has cooked up next.
