View Full Version : New Matrix game trailer
IGN (http://www.ign.com) just put up they're pre-E3 trailer for Enter the Matrix: Path of Neo (http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/696/696714/vids_1.html) for current-gen systems.
Cut in a style that matches the theatrical trailers from the motion pictures almost exactly, the 90-second clip is a must-see for interested Matrix fans.
I call bs. This trailer couldn't be less believable if it was made by Peter Molyneux himself.

What did you find unbelievable about the trailer? Nothing especially surprising or amazing to me.
I think I played this game... Enter the Matrix? It looks a little nicer, but the gameplay has been done. Anyone know what sets it apart?

Personally I could go for more matrix, but it can't be neo and crew. The story has to be original.
You know, I watched that and thought, I have to get it. Even though I doubt the gameplay works out exactly the way the trailer presents it, it still looks like it would be a fun game regardless.
And then at the end: the Shiny logo.
I rifled through my desk until I found my Enter the Matrix disks, and sure enough, same company. Fool me once, shame on you....

Sweet, it's like the third movie never happened. If only they cut out the second movie, too.

Let me point you to two stellar contributions to gaming: Enter the Matrix and The Matrix Online. Both had separate stories from Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, and that whole crowd. Both (as a fairly general consensus) sucked.
I figure it's about time they tried using some more popular and familiar characters, personally. Dave Perry's thinking the same thing too since he himself was really disappointed with Enter the Matrix.

Bleh. The Matrix was a one hit wonder.

I don't see what's so unbelievable about this trailer. Unless you're talking about how many low-poly models and shitty textures they can attempt to fit on the screen at one time?
It's too bad, if this was Xbox exclusive they could have at least cranked the graphics up to respectable levels. But they've got to sell this to the masses I suppose.....

Oh, and the games. That would make it perfect. ;)

isnt this an RPG?
isnt this an RPG?
Is it? Well that changes everything. (Seriously, I won't ever trust Shiny to do a third-person action fighting type game again, but an RPG in the Matrix could be, well... the phrase "pants-wettingly awesome" springs to mind.)
Can anyone confirm?

I don't understand why anyone liked the first movie to begin with... Horrid acting, a hack story, and bad characters. There was never anything good there. Then people go to the sequels, and are surprised to see crap once again.

I completely disagree about everything you said except the acting. I'd also throw in that the dialogue wasn't spectacular either. I feel the story though is pretty great and pretty well executed. It was very believable (no plot holes) and gave you a reason to care about the action scenes (something the last two matrix's lacked). I'd rank it's plot up there with Terminator, Jurassic Park and Total Recall as the best that sci-fi action has to offer.
Been a long while since I've posted and I figured I may as well make my first in a long bit here in a Matrix thread (by the by, I stopped playing the Matrix Online about a month ago after waking up from what can only be described as a coma-like-status to realize how much the game blew goats.... /shudders....anyhow). In all truth, and I know I'm gonna get hit with flames for this, I didn't think Enter the Matrix was awful. Was it good? Not a bit. Entertaining? Well....I got the opportunity to kick flip off a wall and kick a guy in the face. Mind you that got old, oh, about 20 minutes in, but being the fan of the series that I am, I was at least curious enough to want to see the story-line through. I haven't picked it up upon completetion though.
I see this trailer as I see my ability to get hyped over Star Wars time and again. Episode One was tripe save for Obi Wan handing Darth Maul to himself and Episode Two was...well....right, but even after the first offering I was excited for Clones and even after Clones, I am MAD excited to see ROTS (been waiting 24 years to see Anakin and Obi throw down) and despite Lucas' ball dropping, I still get excited the minute I see that Lucasfilms logo blast across a screen. Same thing here. The trailer looked great. They at least know how to splice something together. Isn't Shiny the company behind Earthworm Jim? If not, disregard, but I loved those games and can at least then see some potential when handled properly. After all, Bungie made Oni and came back to give us Halo. I'm willing to give Shiny the benefit of the doubt and hope they learned from their initial Matrix mistakes. If anything, I get to re-live the lobby scene from the first flick. "Please remove any metallic items you might be carrying..."

Yeah, I totally agree! (http://ter.air0day.com/index.php?script=matrix)

Style. It has now been ripped off by everyone, but when it came out few people had been exposed to the anime and Hong Kong action movies the Wachowskis borrowed from.

while not a third person game, we cannot forget about earthworm jim either, that game is just asking for a fully 3d sequel.

there was a fully 3d sequal to Earthworm Jim, and it sucked. hard.
The trailer does look a bit too good to be true on a PS2, as it makes God of War look like Devil May Cry 3. Strangly though, I have a feeling that trailer is for the PC version.

Well the reason the n64 version sucked is that the n64 sucked.

Yeah, actually remembered Earthworm Jim. That game knocked my socks off back in the day. For art class, I drew a picture of Jim and painted it in those fancy fabric acrylics. I was cool for about two seconds. Maybe three.

the first time i play earthworm jim a game i truly loved, i rented it from a local video store that has moved over 8 times. Man that game was so amazing the bosses were all diffrent. Like it was easier once you figured out the pattern or how to actually hurt the boss you could win but some of the levels were so freaking hard, the bungy ones with snot that i can remeber being pretty hard.

Amen man. Major Mucus can still suck my butt.
I thought Earthworm Jim was majorly overrated. It looked good but for an action game it was poorly designed. There was very little "flow" as you played and the combat was very stiff. Earthworm Jim could only shoot his gun while not jumping and also standing still. The character sprite was also quite large (to show off the graphics). There were leaps of faith and instahits too. Just plain overrated.
