UK — November 21st, 2006 — One of this year’s hottest action titles, ‘Gears of War’ shoots straight to the top of the UK ‘All Formats’ retail chart, only 2 days after its release.
‘Gears of War,’ an exclusive title for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, has sold 99,614 copies, confirms Chart Track since its European launch on Friday 17th November, setting a new mark for the fastest-selling original game for Xbox 360™.
“We’ve seen tremendous excitement and demand for ‘Gears of War’ in Europe”, said Stephen McGill, Head of Marketing – Xbox and Games For Windows. “This title offers new and exciting content and is a key example of Microsoft’s commitment to developing original and immersive titles for gamers everywhere.”
‘Gears of War,’ developed by Epic Games Inc. and published by Microsoft Game Studios, is an intense, genre-defining third-person tactical action/horror game, which thrusts players into humankind’s epic battle for survival against a nightmarish race of creatures known as the Locust Horde. With its combination of cinematic, intuitive gameplay, dramatic storytelling and intense action, and with single-player and multiplayer online play via Xbox Live, ‘Gears of War’, provides one of the best next-generation interactive entertainment experiences.

I saw this in my local games store and was sorely tempted to buy a 360 for it. Apparently there's a GOW/360 pack coming out in the runup to Christmas so I might wait for that.

I really should get around to picking this up... I muct be one of the few folks left on this board who hasn't at least tried it. Maybe pick this and Lost Planet up for Christmas.
Still, it's good to see MS showing off a heavyweight I.P. that isn't Halo.

Lost Planet is coming out this year?!
That is fairly good numbers for the UK, considering how heavily overpriced games are there.

It is very very Halo Inspired though =p
Despite that, GOW is definately worth picking up a 360 for.

Right before Christmas for the Jp version. I don't think the other versions are too far behind

Overpriced by American standards, regular priced by ours. We don't go into shops and calculate how much something costs in dollars before buying it you know.

In other news... The Sims 2 Pets - Electronic Arts is the top selling PC Game in October.
We should really do more coverage of Sims Games. :p

Doing coverage of Sims games being the top selling PC gamer is like doing coverage of Halo 2 being the top Xbox live game.....well at least till this week.
In other news...while I was in my local Rhino games store picking up a 12 month live card I heard the guy say they were sold out of Gears of War. Damn that thing is moving.

GoW's success is almost entirely due to it's being the first game that screams "HOLY CHRIST NEXT GEN LOL PS2/Xbox/GC!!!"
The game? Meh. Give it mediocre graphics and tell me it's really that good.

I am not really into GOW's graphics or style at all, and didnt think i woudl like the game since thats all the preview videos showed off. Wasnt interested at all.
But after playing it, I would say that it is the best console action game ever. Give it downright BAD graphics, and i would still say its worth buying a 360 over.

You know what? Give any action-type game bad graphics and it will not be as good. Part of the reason GoW is so good has to do with the incredible graphics. We are now at a stage in the gaming evolution where "graphics" can be a major factor in why or why not you enjoy a particular game. Plus a lot of us 360 owners are also owners of HDTVs. So, a big HELL YEAH!, we want an awesome looking game to play on our awesome HDTVs.
But besides that, make no mistake about it, GoW does everthing else right. The controls are tight, the pacing is on the money, the voice acting is of high standards, the weapons feel right, and the multiplayer is HELLA FUN!!!! So yeah, GoW has awesome graphics but don't think that's the only reason it's a great game. If you're a fan of action games then you must try GoW and I have a feeling you won't be disappointed.

I thought Oblivion was Xbox 360's first "killer app."
Too bad the PC version blows it out of the water.

But I can afford a Honda Civic.

I really, really enjoy Gears. This is the first time since Resident Evil 4 that I've started replaying a game immediately after finishing it the first time around, I'm having a blast online (starting a clan soon), and my wife plays it. This is a woman who does not really like shooters, and she is having a blast with it on casual. Brings a smile on my face :)
For me it managed to live up to the hype, and I wish it all the success it gets.

Can I piss and moan? Because I do not know how to mump.
But on the topic, I am surprised it sold that few in one day, they like their Shooters in the UK, Gears seemed up their alley.

Lol, I could build you a $400 dollar pc that would play Oblivion plenty fine. Consoles being cheaper than pc's has pretty much become a well perpetuated myth.

If you can build me a 400$ PC that can play Oblivion at the same levels as the Xbox 360, I will give you the PC. Frankly, your talking shit and you know it. When you figure, let see, the OS is 100$, the video card to be equal to the Xbox 360 is probrably atleast 200$, that means you need to get all the other bits and pieces for less then 100 bucks.
Translation, give it up.

What does an HD TV cost again? 2-3 grand?
If you can show me a TV/XBox 360 setup for Oblivion that costs less than 3000 dollars, yet runs the game at it's best, I'll concede that the PC version is worse.

YAAAAWWWWWNNNNNNNN>........
Would you please be so kind as to give up this lame argument? You do realize that for, hmmm. 40$(tops), an Xbox 360 can be hooked up to a monitor, you know... like the same kind of display a PC is hooked up to.
Thank you, come again.

Where does the arguement that you HAVE to use an HDTV for the 360 come from?
Just do what plenty of others do and use a monitor.
EDIT: Bah! Too slow (shakes fist)

... guessing you played Oblivion on a much different Xbox then I did. Never once had a major issue. The occasion stutter was annoying, but frankly, much less common then in most PC games Ive played lately. And definatly much less common then the most recent PC game ive played, NWN2, which I might add looked like ass compared to Oblivion.
