TVSquad (http://www.tvsquad.com/2006/11/18/g...cast-of-heroes/) has the article.

In an utterly brilliant bit of casting news, George Takei, Star Trek's Captain Sulu, will be playing Hiro Nakamura's father on NBC's Heroes. You can expect Hiro's father to be showing up stateside to bring his super son back to Japan. If you've been watching the series, you know that won't go over too well considering that Hiro is on a mission to save New York City from imploding in five weeks, which - counting reruns - should be just in time for sweeps.

Masi Oka, who plays space-and-time-continuum-bending Hiro, told TV Guide, "I just hope I get to say, 'Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!' The sci-fi fans would love it." I'm not even a huge sci-fi fan, and I love it. What else can you say? George Takei's awesomeness cannot be contained.

If we're going down this route, I expect Hiro to shout "ZA WORLDO!" before he activates his power in a future episode.

Let's not go totally overboard here with the fanservice, NBC.

Don't know what happened there. Go to AOL. It's there somewhere. The quoted text is the entire article.

I can't get enough of this show. They do an awsome job with portraying the characters in a non cheesy way.

No, what would have been brilliant casting was if NBC had bothered to pick up Takeshi Kitano (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001429/) to play his father. No offense to George Takei.

I think that went over a lot of people's heads here. But nice one. ;)

I don't watch the show but was planning on getting the DVD whenever it came out. Looks like a cool show. Takei on there is definitely a bonus.. I have much respect for him after hearing him on Stern this year.. Someone who gets the joke and does not take himself too seriously...

I like the show, but hate the cliffhanger ending of every episode.(specially when they resolve it in like the first 2 min of the next episode.) I like the way BsG does it better. You know what's coming up but they don't beat you over the head with it repeat it over and over.

Anyways the world is safe now right?

I agree, I hope they get over this strategy before next season, because it's making me doubt the ability of the writers.

Interestingly enough, he and my step mother were both in the internment camps during WWII when Japanese Americans were rounded up and jailed. I'm not sure if it was the same one in Nevada, but he spoke at the reunion when she went down a few years ago.

I also remember that the government finally gave her some money and she ended up buying an antique wardrobe with it. Her parents had died by that time, so they didn't see any of it.

Strange world we live in.

Awesome bit of casting news. Heroes has really been a lot of fun to watch and has quickly moved up into my top three shows I don't want to miss each week. Good stuff!

Wow. I wouldn't go that far. It goes:

1. BSG
2. Lost
3. Heroes
4. House

For me. ;)

Having met him personally (Guest Relations, Green Room, etc. back in the late 80/early 90s), I have trouble of ever thinking of him as a "dad". But I will always think of him as the smartest/well adjusted of the ST TOS crew.

/Did anyone else wants Hiro's last name to be Protagonist ala Snowcrash.
