Gamespot (gamespot.com) has a Namco (namco.com) pre-E3 preview section (http://www.gamespot.com/features/e305namco/index.html?tag=boxcar_all_preview_image) up, including coverage of Sigma Star Saga (http://www.gamespot.com/gba/rpg/sigmastarsaga/preview_6124394.html), a combination sidescrolling shooter/rpg, Shogun Warrior: Real Time Conflict (http://www.gamespot.com/ds/strategy/shogunwarriorthelostarmy/preview_6124380.html), a DS RTS, Rebelstar: Tactical Command (http://www.gamespot.com/gba/strategy/rebelstartacticalcommand/preview_6124393.html), from the makers of X-Com, Pac 'N Roll (http://www.gamespot.com/ds/action/pacnroll/preview_6124444.html), a trackball-esque platformer, along with a lot more (http://www.gamespot.com/features/e305namco/index.html?tag=boxcar_all_preview_image), including Soul Calibur III, Arc The Lad, Hellgate: London, Mage Knight, and We Love Katamari.
The game's obviously going to appeal to longtime game players who grew up playing both RPGs and side-scrolling shoot-'em-ups on 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. But Sigma Star Saga looks like it'll do more than just cash in on old-school nostalgia. It's a neat-looking game that reminds us that 2D gaming really ought to never go out of style.
It's easy to forget how big Namco is. Goddamn but they are putting out a lot of handheld games.

The fact that Namco isn't releasing the Namco/Capcom RPG in America makes them forever my enemy. Screw you Namco!

But... But... Sidescrolling shooter.... with RPG stuff... When you hit a random encounter it goes to shooter mode... With heavily customizable weapons... And platforming... Aaaargh...

Love and adoration is the correct response, by the way.
