Imperator is Mythic Entertainment's next-generation Sci-Fi themed MMO currently in development, featuring a thrilling new interplanetary game world based on an alternate history in which Rome never fell. WorthPlaying (http://www.worthplaying.com) took a trip down to the Mythic HQ in Fairfax, Virginia to check out the current progress.

Imperator is based around the premise that the Roman Republic never fell and became the Roman Empire. The Romans expanded into space with colonies on many planets and moons, and the Mayans also became a spacefaring race, but now want to take back the Earth.

There will be PvP in Imperator, although it won't be the end-game like it is in DAoC. One lesson it was nice to see Mythic learn is that the skills you use in PvP are separate from the ones you use in PvE. As a result, that great skill you use to handily defeat a monster won't have a player shouting, "Nerf this, buddy!" This is probably one of the biggest areas they have struggled with in Camelot, and this is a workable solution. There haven't been many details released about how PvP will work, but it's a safe bet there will be some sort of gladiatorial combat.Check the full Imperator preview (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=25347) over at WorthPlaying.

Nice to see they're doing some evolutionary stuff, that's always promising.

Mythic is best known for taking center stage and sporting the goods, but will they be able to maintain a stable Imperator universe and keep up with the onslaught of end-user feedback? They certainly couldn't in DAoC, but maybe things will be smoother this time around.

So far, I'd have to say that Imperator is looking great in terms of graphics quality. Mythic's advancement from the early DAoC engine -> SI engine -> ToA engine (slightly modified SI engine) -> overhauled Catacombs engine leaves me with no reason to belittle the power of the Imperator engine. Of course, I'll have to see the beta for myself before I can pass serious judgement on the entire game.

I'm with both of you guys. Mythic definately has the knowledge and skill to pull it off. I'm hoping they've learned as much as we have as players and make an awesome game. Btw, if your as into Imperator as I am, there seems to be only one fan site for it right now, but check it out for your bookmarks, http://www.voxplebis.com.
