I think I'm going to cry. Now you can hire someone (http://allentown.craigslist.org/ele/234473887.html) to wait in line to get you a PS3 on launch day. The price? A mere $100.Just tell me where and when, and I'd be happy to wait in line for around $100 to get the new PS3 when its released.
I need to know what town, which store, and we can set something up. I need to know as much ahead of time as possible.

I'm sorry, but right now this whole thing makes me sick. What ever happened to the joy of getting a new console?

Wow, now that's sad. If I were actually going to stand in line, I'd just bring my DS, PSP, and a lawn chair. Hell, like I'd be doing much different (playing games that is) if I were sitting at home anyway.

I would do it. Then I would probably disappear into the night with it sell it on ebay and get a ticket to Japan to lay low until the heat died down.

I'm pretty sure the joy of getting a new console was completely over-taken by the wave of pure, unadulterated, 100%, grade A, PROFIT!

There are very few things people won't do for money and there are a lot of people who will pay for almost anything.

I think 100 is too low; someone out there will pay more...

And getting a console on launch day is, in my opinion, a stupid thing to do. Launch consoles are historically borked/built poorly, come with lousy libraries of launch titles, are overpriced, and require you, usually, to wait in a long-ass line to get the thing.

Hell...wait a few months and get the thing at your leisure. Big deal.

Supply has dropped due to increasing complexity on hardware and increasing competition on time to market, and demand has grown due to more market growth and penetration.

There's not enough consoles and too many people that want 'em. Pretty much any product is bound by rules of economics...

Fucking pathetic. It's bad enough you're impatient enough that you must have the consoles now. It's even worse when you're so lazy you'll hire someone to STAND. Unless you're legless, you can stand. Bunch of lazy, worthless, pieces of shit.

Why pay a normal joe when a homeless man would do it for cheaper! That's what the japanese did.

Didn't this already happen in Japan?

Yep, it did. Those "enterprising businessmen" were paying people around ¥20.000 for waiting in line.

Opportunity cost. If I make 50-60$/hour working in my warm office, I actually save money by hiring someone to stand outside in the cold instead of doing it myself. Consoles arnt about not being lazy, they are about playing fun video games. If i could pay 100$ more not to to have to waste a ton of my time and freeze myself half to death, then I would pay the 100$. Its not about being lazy, its about why is a console worth that kind of effort? Its not.

Not that I would do this, b/c wtf is there to even play on ps3 on launch day. But, if there were several awesome games I just had to play, I might consider it.

I would certainly agree with you. Other than the elements, waiting in line for my 360 was fun. Good people, good discussions. Also helped that I was 6th in line...lol :D After walking out of the store, I left victorious, as if I'd made it to some finish-line. Twas quite the rush...then of course I went home and collapsed in bed for 12 hours, hehe...

Are you hiring? $50-60/hour is a shit load more than I make now!

Sony took that away when they decided to launch while vastly understocked for their product.

Your example is valid, but it is a rare occurance. And yes, it is lazy. If you can't fucking stand, and you're willing to pay someone to do it for you (assuming you can do yourself), then you're both lazy and stupid. Hell, you don't even have to stand! Grab a lawn chair and play some Daxter or Brain Age. Read a good novel or manga or something. $100 dollars to ask somebody to stand in line for you? Lame!

i smell scam.

the only way this makes sense is if the line-sitter can't swing $600 of his own bucks for a PS3. If the sitter did have $600, and the time to wait around in line, they'd just buy their own to ebay, making $600-1200 profit instead of $100.

Odds of a relatively tech-savvy American sitting in a line for two-plus days for $100 when they could easily double a $600 investment?
Slim.

sounds like text book of supply and demand. If morons are willing to pay then who does it hurt? This only happens like once every 5-6 years. I'm indifferent to the rampant profiteering. Yeah some sleezeballs are gonna pay 600 for a ps3 and then sell it on ebay for 3x that much. But unless you are jealous someone is making money without any real work, it really doesn't effect any of us.

Went to Wally World last night and notice 2 people inside at the layaway Department entrance waiting on the PS3.

I remember that the NES was hard to find Xmas of 88 along with N64 at Xmas 96.

My NES story. I got mine a few weeks after Xmas. I called every store in my area, no one had it, but then I found this one Kmart with like 15. My dad and I had to drive about 30 minutes to get there but that was ok. But I remember being so worried they'd sell out before I got there because they wouldn't hold one for me.

Hell, I'm paying a buddy $50 day of and 10% of what I make off of the system on eBay, simply due to the fact that I can't be there at launch because I have to be on a plane at 7:30AM Friday.

Hmmm....I make $37/hr on OT at work....so unless I'm only in line for 3 hours I might as well just sign up to go to my normal job for an OT shift.

This guy is offering to stand in line for what will surely be less than $10/hr. Why not just borrow $600 from mom and dad and sell it on eBay? Make at least $600 in profit.

C'mon, people. Remember Scrooge McDuck! Work Smarter! Not Harder!

I got a better idea. Go to your local home depot and pick up an illegal alien ERRRRR naturalized U.S citizen. Tell him you will pay him 15 bucks an hour to wait in line. Once he gives you the ps3, tell him you're going to drive him home. But instead take him to the INS, turn him in for being an illegal, and get a ps3 without having to wait in line, I think that's a total win, win situation for both parties.

I would pay someone $100 to wait overnight in my place. The warmth of my bed is worth at least $100.

It's not Microsoft's fault. Nor is it Sony's fault. It's YOUR fault for insisting on having the system on Day 1. Wait a few months and then get one. Plenty of joy and a lot less headache.

Makes you sick? Why do you really give a shit? People want their console on day one and they are going to do whatever they have to do to get it be it camping for it or buying it on eBay or getting someone to stand in line for them. I really don't see a big deal. I grabbed a GCN in 2001 at midnight at a Walmart because they were going to sell out, onoz

You have a right to be sick...
And they have the right to do whatever the FUCK they want to do.

So stop stifling people. People like me CAN'T stand in line because of our FUCKING JOBS. So stop getting your panties in a wad. There are people who are legitimently trying to get a PS3 here.

And no, I STILL do not plan on buying a PS3... I think they are retarded.

Yes, sony will fuck you in the ass because, even though it's illegal and not their right, they are putting laws on who can and cannot sell a PS3 and at what point in time.

Assholes.

While I don't have any problem ethically with paying someone to stand in line. I'm actually surprised to see people actually want a ps3 that bad. I mean, what is there to play on the ps3 that you can't play on the xbox right now? Ridge Racer? pfft.

I'd just wait till ps3's are in wide distribution and its got some games worth playing

I'd want at least $20 per hour to stand in line. $100 is a bargain assuming they don't just run off with it. Anyway, I'm sure most of the great anticipation of waiting in line would be lost, if you knew you were just going to be handing off the console for cash.

If you guys lived in chicago youd be spending a lot more than 100$ to avoid standing still outside at night that long. Not much fun playing DS under huge gloves while the wind gives your nose frostbite.

Why bother listing now? Wait until the marketing hype kicks in, people see how few are actually out there and the demand surges.
