It appears that Gaming-Age.com (http://gaming-age.com) has posted some tasty pics (http://gaming-age.com/news/2005/5/12-48) (nudies?) of what they claim is the next installment of the Dead or Alive Series. The kicker? They are taken from the Xbox 360 build.

Scantly-clad women fighting one another never looked so good.

Mmmm great graphics...too bad it's a DOA game.

Nudies indeed...

Do these look that much better than this generation? I'm really excited for the 360, but this doesn't look that amazing to me. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, I just don't get that "No way this is real" feeling like I did before the current gen. Maybe I'm just getting old and jaded.

I'm not that impressed... o.o Looks just like DoA2U

The character models look like they have the same poly count roughly...what amazes me is the texture detail and distance effects.

I'm definitely a DOA fan, and I know that the gameplay is all that matters, but a little eye candy never hurt nobody ;)

the people's skin looks all smooth and untextured. Then again perhaps thats just their style.

Yeah, the backgrounds do look pretty good.

I mean, this is from team ninja, headed by a guy who never quits talking about how great the graphics are in his games. Well, for a next gen title, I sure hope he doesn't consider this amazing.

I won't make any judgments until I see this in motion.

Can I get an "unimpressed"? This is coming from a 9 GHz machine? No self-shadowing? I hope these are from Xbox1 not Xbox2.

The machine isn't 9 GHz.

Fishie at GAF already confirmed that these are NOT X360 shots. They are actually EXTREMELY early concept shots that were done up on pre-alpha hardware back when the project was still called Xenon. Tecmo took all of the pictures off of the FTP site from which they were stolen and asked that they not be posted.

However, we all know about Gaming Age's relationship with Tecmo (for those who don't know the story - it's bad), so they posted the shots anyway, claiming that they're X360 shots, when, in fact, they are not.

So take these shots with an EXTREMELY HUGE grain of salt and wait until Team Ninja REALLY unveils DOA4.

So, in other words, we have absolutely no confirmed shots of 360 games? [except for the grainy Ghost Recon 3 scans of course]

Besides higher polygon counts and higher texture detail, I'm not sure what you guys expected to see. I think this looks good, and besides the aforementioned lack of self-shadowing, it's the incremental quality improvement that should be expected.

You read too much GAF, Reanimated. Damage control at its finest!

I'm wondering now if the next generation games will look that much better on normal TV's. I mean if all the new games are built for HD doesn't that mean they might have to scale back on stuff like poly counts because they're running at such a high resolution? Just wondering

I really hope that's a joke... because if it's not, you're a complete fucking moron.

Yes and no. The things the new technology bring to the table, namely higher polygon counts and texture resolutions, will be largely lost on normal TVs. The games will look better, though, but this will be primarily because the artists, tools, and development processes have been constantly improving.

HOLY SHIT. I tried to count just how many characters are on screen in that shot, but my eyes started to bleed. Ok, the trees and ground textures are not top notch, but who the hell is going to care when they are trying to deal with the several hundred highly detailed enemies surrounding them?

Some of you will never be happy, I can tell you right now.

These are definitely not xbox1... poly count is far higher than anything xbox could handle, in addition shots of things like normal maps/bump maps/shaders don't look like anything special until seen in motion -- thats the way they work.

Those screenshots are sexy. If thats going to be typical of next gen, I'm happy -- considering with graphics like that will, assumingly, come some physics and other stuff.

I can understand why everyone is focusing on the technical aspects of these shots, but let's talk about the design for a minute. These characters still look like glazed-over mannequins, and in fact I'd say it's actually gotten worse on that score, however much things have advanced on the technical side. That some people (I'm not targeting anyone here, I'm just speaking in general) think the DoA series is the preeminent wellspring of hot gaming grrlz is baffling to me; it just proves the theory that you could stick big tits on a wooden crate and some people would consider it the sexiest thing going.

Holy shit! They are putting boobies on crates now? Sign me up for the UPS!

Um, an HL mod. O-kay then!

Seriously though, the DoA shots do look better than DoAU, but not by a whole hell of a lot. I'm hoping they are very early development shots done on baby hardware. Team Ninja should be able to crank out some amazing stuff on the new hardware.

Now that 99 one, sheesh. If that's in game and not a render, wow. Though the ground does look like a generic grass texture, but I'm willing to overlook it for now. :D

Hmm, boobies and crates, not sure which of the three I've seen more of in games :).

The backgrounds are incredible. The character models could use some work though. The resolution is also mucho impressivo. I think this was originally slated for xbox 1 release and was converted which could explain a lot.

I'm remembering my reaction the first time I saw Soul Calibur on the DC. And the first time I saw DoA3 on the XBox. Those were "holy shit" moments.

This was a, "hmm, everything looks higher res" moment. Better, sure, especially if you have an HDTV. If you don't... might as well wait for a while until the good looking XBox 360 games come out. Looks like 6 months to a year after launch.

very nice character models...but the background scenery looks so blurry! Is the 360 underpowered? Maybe....

Underpowered? Probably not. I'm betting on software being rushed for launch is all.

Hehe, this is a forced focus effect, simulating the fact that your eyes are focusing on the foreground characters, not the effect of low-res textures (I’m guessing that’s what you were thinking). In some shots you can clearly see the focus changing at different distances. This is extra work, and I’m sure in motion will be a plus.
