The Iceland based game developer CCP have taken their space based MMORPG EVE Online and made it a sleeper success with well over 100,000 monthly. No one could have predicted, however, that CCP would jointly announce a merger on Saturday with White Wolf Publishing, the Atlanta based maker of pen-and-paper RPGs best known for their World of Darkness series of games. What does this mean for the future of both companies? FiringSquad got a few answers from White Wolf spokesperson Kelley Barnes-Herrmann (http://firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=13162). Here is a snip:
FiringSquad: Why does White Wolf believe that this deal will help both companies?
Kelley Barnes-Herrmann: We see the diversity in experience and product focus as a natural fit. Each company brought assets into the merger that will fill a development need in the other company. For Example - White Wolf will produce the RPG for EVE, the strategy guides for the online game and fiction novels set in the world of EVE. The established brand that is White Wolf's World of Darkness will be brought to 'virtual life' by the innovative team of programmers and developers at CCP's Iceland headquarters.

The World of Darkness brought fully to life would be the pinnacle of MMORPG's. I hope to god they try and realize the whole thing. Obviously it would make sense to start with a subset (Maybe just Vampires and Wraiths), and increase it from there.
But it would be just incredible to have the full gamut out there. Vampire/Wraith/Hunter/Werewolf/Mage

A couple of points.
1) I reckon they'd base it on the new material, not the original WoD stuff. That means no Wraith (which had been finished for several years before the reboot. The ending of the Wraith storyline was the beginning of the Hunter one. Well, the beginning of the modern day leg of the Hunter storyline. It actually connects to Exalted and the Kindred of the East stuff) and no Hunters. At least not Hunters with the capital 'H.'
2) Even if they did, Wraith would be bloody hard to integrate with the rest of the world and would hardly be worth the effort. "Yay, let's redo the graphics for all of our regular zones and create a bunch of new ones for a very small amount of our players that will hardly be able to interact with the rest of them anyway."
CCP EVE Team developing a WoD MMO...
That's so good it should be illegal.

Why are the Chinese communists making a deal with White Wolf? And what are they doing in Iceland?

I was pretty optimistic about this merger yesterday, now I'm ecstatic - there's definite talk of a WOD online RPG, and with CCP in development that can only be a good thing. Can't wait till they release some more specific information as to what projects they're considering; I'll be watching this space very closely :D
