The Nintendo DS certainly isn’t short of good puzzle games. The next big puzzle release for the console looks set to be Meteos. Pro-G ( http://www.pro-g.co.uk/previews/pid/759/57/) has a preview of the game.

Meteos is the kind of game that could only have ever come out of a Japanese mind. With that singularly Japanese blend of blinding simplicity and total compulsiveness, Meteos is a bizarre, yet compelling, blend of the major gameplay elements of two classics of the action-puzzle genre, Tetris and Zookeeper.

Meteos has a confirmed US release for the end of June, but the game hasn’t yet been announced for Europe.

It's a good game, has some nice art direction and can get crazily addictive trying to unlock everything.

My only gripe is that in crunch time when the screen gets busy, it's far too easy to slip with the stylus and miss connecting up some of the blocks and ruin a potentialy amazing combo.

I had a go on multiplayer a while back and it was frankly amazing.

Yeah it is. Although, I keep confusing Electroplankton, Lumines, and Meteos all together.

If I hear the terms "Only out of a japanese mind..." again, someone is going to be shot, or anything similar to that, it is just poor writing choices, such as interviews that talk about the grand entrance of someone famous.

Agreed. Not to mention, the classic example of such a game, Tetris, is Russian.

What?!? You like games and you don't WORSHIP JAPAN???!?

Heh. One of the reasons I like the Xbox, despite being far from a Microsoft fan (Linux and Apple baby), is that it's an American console and spearheaded by western development. Many of those great PC games from the early-to-mid '90s are from western development houses.

Nothing AGAINST Japanese development (thank you for Ico), but I'm glad that we have a western console too. I mean, I only own about 7 consoles from Japanese companies and 1 from the US.
