Can it be? Is there actual positive news about video gaming in the mainstream media? A news channel in Idaho (http://www.kpvi.com/index.cfm?page=nbcheadlines.cfm&ID=37531) (thanks to Game Politics (http://www.gamepolitics.com/) for the link) had a three part series examining video games.

Tonight, we meet a family that says blowing each other to bits is the best way to bond.

The family that plays together...

Someone gets these news people a spot on MSNBC!

I think the important thing is that, whether you play games, go hiking, travel, or whatever the hobby, make it a time to communicate with others, connect with others (family, friends), and not a hole to climb into to disappear from the world and hide.

This is one reason I love Live...I can connect with my brother any time, even though he's about 700 or so miles away. It's very awesome. :)

*jumps into hole to hide ;) *

I think this thread kind of points out a problem with good news for games in general. Look at the posts totals. 3 to 6 posts total for good news, yet if we have a video games are bad for people post, then you will get so many more. Its why news and papers and magazines show the bad side, it gets a lot more notice, a lot more discussion, and they thus get more recognition. If we as gamers cant have a discussion of the pros and cons of a good article, why should even non gamers care?

Just my 2 cents worth on it.

Because there would simple be a bunch of gamers saying "Amen to that." Not a whole lot to discuss and debate, which is what most boards thrive on.
That being said, I doubt this will ever hit a nationwide news affiliate. It's not bad new, so people won't gravitate towards it. Which headline grabs you better:
Gaming: What you don't know, may kill you.
or
Study show video games bring families closer together.

I already know most of you will say "Oh the positive one" because we all want to read something positive about our demonized hobby, but most people don't.

Now replace Gaming/Video games with the word Sandwich, which grabs you more?

But this isn't the first group to say that video games can be good for people/families/children. Many of the progressive pychological think-tanks have been popping out research on the subject for years. Hell, University of Chicago Developmental Psychology Department just kicked off a long-term study on the subject as well, although they haven't come out and siad what their actual hypothesis is.

Check out this book as well if you haven't already: http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Bad-Is-Good-You/dp/1573223077.

In any case, there is more and more compelling evidence that video games, if used in appropriate ways, will produce positive results.... even though the Hillary Clinton's of the world refuse to believe that.

They also say I want to have sex with my mother and kill my father. It is the other way around goddamnit...I mean, games rule.

Strange..my dad taught me how...it is called the shooting range. I could probably shoot you in the head with an air-rifle, a Bow, A rifle, Shotgun, or a Sling Shot(with some practice again). Yes, we midwesterners are skilled in the deadly arts.
