For those of you who haven't already given up and returned the game, the first Single Player patch for Dark Messiah is available both on Steam and for download. This patch does not fix all the known issues with the game, including the really bad bug which stops some people from even booting the game.
The second patch which is meant to remedy more issues is still coming (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3921096804/m/2211023105/p/1).

I know upgrading to the latest Catalyst (6.10) for my x800 improved stuttering, so those who haven't already do it now.

I am one of those people who can't even boot the game. Fortunately for me, I have Gears of War to tide me over. And then Rainbow Six: Vegas. And also Call of Duty 3, eventually. Also still have to finish Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Hell, I've also got Psychonauts on Steam, too. F*ck it; I don't need it.

Now, I've heard some people can't even play Company of Heroes on certain setups. Don't know if it's related, but it could be.

Our local Fred Meyer just pulled this off the shelves due to attempted returns. He said of 45 copies 37 attempted returns. Wonder what that kind of thing will cause in the long run to a company's bottem line?

Now we know why they distributed it via Steam as well. :p
"Uh, Mr. Steam, I'd like to return this mostly useless pile of bits please."
Game ran ok for me, finished in a day or so.

Anyone able to get the patch through Steam? I'm not getting anything and I'm hoping that the new patch will at least let me start the game :)
Heh, I was going to pull the trigger on this with the gogamer $32.90 special, but maybe I will wait for another patch before giving this a go.

I've had the game for a week and experienced not problems at all. The demo ran like crap for me, but the retail version has actually been very smooth.
More importantly (for me at least, I have finished single player twice now, once on normal 2nd time on hard), the MP patch was released last week, and it has slightly improved things. Loading times are still stupidly long tho.

All i had to do was revert my Nvidia drivers back a few months, and now the game works just fine. Basically it's Half-Life 2 with swords.

I think I heard on the GFW podcast that someone who bought the game on steam was able to get a refund. Makes sense, if the game won't even start.

Basically it's Half-Life 2 with swords. Is there something that makes it more similar to HL2 than to any other FPS? Besides Source, I mean.

I spent a few afternoons trying to get this to run. I had the stuttering problem, and the problem that was percieved as a memory leak during loading, and random crashes, and numerous other bugs. I finally got it running after owning the game for about 4-5 days. Pissed me off.
I had to uninstall, reinstall without MP, turn everything to the lowest setting then gradually crank my settings back up. I have it running at pretty decent settings now, and it looks good, but it is still not up to even the recomended settings. The demo and the tutorial level in the retail version ran great with everything cranked at 1600. Now most settings are on medium or low, no HDR, and at 1280. It does run fine though, and load times are fine as well.
This is fucked up though. It is seriosly a poor showing to release a game in such a state. I already know Gothic 3 is gonna be the fucking same, and yet still I look foward to its release. I will not be buying it without scouring the forums to make sure that it is not so terribly bug ridden as to be unplayable until you do things you would normally never do to make a game run.

Just source Id say. Similar graphics, controls and audio cues will do that to a person. Its also because it has more in common with an FPS than an FPRPG like Oblivion. From what Ive seen the levels looks linear in progression and plenty of non-critical speacial FX going on which is more like HL2 than an RPG.
Id say its similar to HL2 simply because it reminds me of it. Not because they play alike.
