From Activision (http://www.activision.com):
Tony Hawk fans get their taste of the definitive skateboarding experience with the release of Tony Hawk’s Project 8, which ships today to retail outlets nationwide. Reengineered from the ground up for Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles, Tony Hawk’s Project 8 immerses players in the definitive skateboarding experience using ultra-realistic graphics, enhanced physics and extremely responsive controls that simulate the feeling of skating with every trick and bail. The game challenges players to experience the intensity and excitement of skating against some of the world’s top amateurs, as they climb the ranks in an effort to earn their way onto Tony Hawk’s Project 8 Team.
Tony Hawk’s Project 8 is currently available for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 for a suggested retail price of $59.99, and the Xbox and PlayStation 2 for $49.99. The PSP version will be available in late-November. The game has been rated “T” (Teen – Blood, Crude Humor, Language, Mild Violence) by the ESRB.

Any impressions on this? I stopped buying TH games after 4, they just got boring as hell (and the T.H.U.G. antics looked asinine).

Demo was cool, I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow with my free Toys 'r us exchange. There wasn't much in the demo but the new slow mo board trick control is fun.

I'm guessing you didn't get a chance to play the Demo? They've removed all the cheeky moves, and made the game more realistic. Special mode, now slows down time to allow you to perform moves more precisely, like you're "in the zone"
Not to mention the "Nail the trick" mode. While in the air, at any time, you can click the sticks in and bullet-time the game once more. This time you treat the analog sticks like your feet and "kick" the board, to do tricks. So for instance, if you wanted to do a kickflip, you'd kick the left side of the board with your left foot (pull down on the analog) to start the kick flip. When the board comes face up again, you release the stick to it's neutral position and land, or kick the board again, in a different direction to "branch" into another trick.
I was not a fan of THUG or THAW at all, but this one shows it's improvements. It feels more natural, less arcade-y. Furthermore, the movements, and bails of the skaters are welcome in the eye-candy dept. No more 80 degree skateboarding.
The Demo is worth playing to see if you'd be a fan of the final version.

I actually haven't really got into a TH game since TH2, and then only at a friends house. I tried a couple times, and it just didn't draw me. This demo on the other hand, was pretty badass. The nail the trick was in PA's words..."Shithot".

Played the demo, enjoyable for sure. I still will probably not buy it and just rent.

I've never been a fan of the TH games and I was a skater for years and years.
I thought "Project 8" was just a working title.. I guess they couldn't come up with anything. 8 games since 1999, not bad
My favorites though were 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast

I've been playing the demo to death, can't wait for this to come out next in the UK :)

Hadn't played a game of Tony Hawk since number 3 and had no inclination toward getting this until I played the demo.

Anyone who hasn't played the demo needs to go away right now.
I stopped playing them after the 2nd sequel, and never even sniffed any of the american waste-of-my-time ones...
THP8 is the new hotness, and I will own it. It's incredible.

And what beauties they were.
I, too, played the demo and I think I'll stick with that until I see any reason to purchase other than the new mode.

I'm downloading the demo off of the Marketplace to give it a good try.
