The official Nintendo (http://www.nintendo.com) website has a short survey posted (http://www.nintendo.com/user_survey/online.jsp?entry=1) regarding online play. Head on over there and let them know what's up with online play.
Better late than never?

I'm sorry, but Animal Crossing online would be a truly awesome experience. It would be a really great way for Nintendo to enter the online world.

No, that Nintendo is late to the online arena.

Yeah, I don't get the defensiveness to BA posting this one.
Nintendo is the last of the "big 3" console makers (and still last if you including the Dreamcast to the current Gen) to enter the online arena. Better late than never doesn't sound assholish to me... just sounds like it sounds... It's about time they've gone full swing to it.

WHO CARES
I certainly won't be playing Mario or Zelda on-line with some random stupid assholes.
F-Zero and Metroid - maybe
Mario Kart - the only on-line title that interests me.

I always thought Nintendo would be online first. They were big on multiplayer games, with the N64 being the first 4 port console. But they never went along with online play and I could never get it. But BA is right, better late than never. I want Mario Kart online, F-Zero online, Smash Bros. online, plus endless possibility of new IP's Ninty could come up with(well, if they even bother) for online gaming.
But Metroid? Someone needs to fucking stop this. I don't want it turning into Nintendo's exclusive FPS franchise. KEEP IT OLD-SCHOOL.

Maybe someone can find the articles, but I distinctly remember Nintendo around the Gamecube launch saying that they did not think that online gaming was mainstream JUST YET, and that perhaps with later generations of hardware they would implement it. Now I don't know the X-box live numbers, but I'm pretty sure they are small in comparison to ALL x-box owners. However, online console gaming is DEFINITELY the wave of the future so Nintendo is now includiong, just as they said they would, what's the problem? Granted I would have enjoyed more online games on GC, but howmany people really play online with their PS2s? And remember, we aren't jsut talking hardcore gamers here, I mean the mainstream audience. I think thats the big problem right now, game companies are making decisions to appeal to the mainstream and not us hardcore gamers anymore. It's too bad really.

I think Nintendo released the broadband adaptor, and PSO before the release of Xbox Live, and Sony's broadband adaptor. So their online plan for GameCube sucks, but it wasn't last. Haha!

Well, playing with total strangers is an american thing. I'm not surprised MS came out with the most comprehensive online support.
As for metroid, they're probably thinking metroid hunter, or maybe a co-op at the most.

Smash Bros. being online would have been awesome. I wreaked pure, unadultered havoc on all I knew for years with the n64 and GC versions.

It's not like Nintendo is totally clueless about how to set up an online network. They had a satellite service for the SNES and a modem-based online network for the 64DD many years ago.
Granted these services were only in Japan, but just because they haven't offered "true" online game doesn't mean they're ill-prepared to start with the Revolution and DS.

It's true, Nintendo really have some kickass franchises that are screaming for online modes. And I mean real online modes with stats, matchmaking and stuff. Not just LAN tunneling.

I filled out the survey. They asked some decent questions. Here's to hoping they create an unbelievable service!!!!! GO N!

Nope. XBox Live was first. I believe that the PS2's online abilities came before their nearly useless adaptor as well.

The thing that kills me about Nintendo's lack of interest in online is how easily they could have succeeded with it. Pokemon's not as big as it was, but *it's practically an MMORPG already.* You wander around leveling up, fighting random battles, and when you get stronger you, get this, *fight other trainers.* This in a game where people are *already* used to level grinding all day. Connectivity? How about you can level up and play one-player with your GBA, and take those monsters online by connecting it to your cube? It freaking writes itself! It's 90% there already! They're so stubborn.

Well, N64DD beats everyone (in Japan). How's the Live user-created levels thing going anyway?
