Over at 1Up (http://www.1up.com) they have a short article (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3154745) about Majesco's upcoming game for the Wii, "Cooking Mama: Cook Off."
The Wii version will incorporate international cuisine into its menu with 300 recipes pulled from 10 nations, plus two-person multiplayer. They might as well call this Iron Chef: The Game at this point.
This game is scheduled to be released in January of next year.

While there's not much info there, just it's existence is sort of exciting. Multiplayer cooking on the Wii? I mean, how can you beat that?

Yes. Multiplayer is what the DS version really needed. I'll probably get this.

I can see it now.

"Pass the salt please, I need if for my stew."

"Fuck you man, its my salt you can't have it."

"F me??? no F you!!!"

*sounds of violence*

"Dude you just totally TKd me for salt!?!"

"Next time stay outa my kitchen bitch!"

Cooking Mamma TK FTW!

From the reviews I saw, Cooking Mama was pretty shallow, kind of a very poor man's Trauma Center. I'd like to see how they expand it for the Wii.

That sounds like exactly the sort of thing that would appeal to Joe-non-gamer. Trauma Center is a fantastic game, but I think it's going to be too hard for a non-gamer.

I'm a big fan of these 'non-traditional' games - Trauma Center is one of the games that is making me get a Wii. Cooking Mama is a fun little title that has gotten some play on my DS, and if it's out I'll definitely be grabbing it come January!

I think it's really wierd that a console is getting so many handheld ports. I guess we don't know what to expect from Nintendo this generation.

That's exactly why I'm holding off on getting a Wii. These kinds of games are great on a handheld, but I'm looking for a meatier experience when I sit down in front of my TV. We'll see what Nintendo has lined up in six months.

I thought Cooking Mama on the DS was ok, although it strikes me as a slightly more coherent WarioWare type game. Nothing wrong with that, of course; but I don't think I'd pay more than $30 for this game on the Wii, just like I wouldn't pay more than $20 for the game on the DS.

I had the DS game preordered for my wife; we both love it. Multiplayer is all that was missing, so this is a must get.

I quite enjoy the DS version of the game. It was definately a bargain purchase, but I found it drawing me back more than some of the deeper games I have on the DS because I could just fire it up, do a few recipes and then turn it off. Fun fun fun.

I know how you could beat it...with a game that doesn't revolve around cooking! I mean, multiplayer cooking...listen to yourself man!

Majesco's publishing it, but the game's actually from Taito.
From the reviews I saw, Cooking Mama was pretty shallow, kind of a very poor man's Trauma Center. I'd like to see how they expand it for the Wii.
It's more an alternate universe WarioWare. It's actually quite fun if you like that style of game (which, I must admit, I do).

This isn't really a port. The gameplay comepletely revolves around the controls, so it'll play completely differently from the DS version even if it is largely the same recipes.

I predict that Zelda is going to be a very deep gameplay experience and that it is actually going to use the remote in ways a lot of us do not yet know about. I recall reading a recent interview with the design team and they were discussing how the testers had a hard time believing the game was concieved for a different platform because the motion sensitive controls felt like an integral part.

Obviously you are going to see more "waggle" games at first because they are much, much easier to make and have shorter development cycles. The difference with this launch is, in addition to a few titles of substance, we are also getting all these little diversionary and party type games. I just look at them as nice bonuses. I don't think of them as replacing the traditional "deep" gameplay experiences but rather something we are going to get in addition to those games.

I love this kind of stuff. It hearkens back to the days when we had games like Tapper and Burger Time. You know, when they were fun. It's really a sign that ideas are catching up to the technology.

I think the Wii is getting DS ports mainly because a) They want to bank of current DS successes, as it worked there thus has a good chance of working on the Wii, and b) because they want to attract their new audience of the non-gamer. But holding off on buying a Wii because it got Cooking Mama and Trauma Center "ported" to it? I don't follow. It's not really a bad thing.

I agree, and as long as these games don't cost the same price as the deeper games I think they'll be a lot of fun. Playing a gimmicky game is always better when you know it didn't cost as much as the big boys.

Loved this game on the DS, but some of the challenges were way too hard.

This is such cool news. This and Trauma Center are going to absolutely rock IMHO. ..I think all the handheld ports are coming now because this is the first console that can translate the controls of Nintendo DS games well. I don't have a problem with these 'shallow' games coming to the Wii: they fit so well into a busy schedule, I think companies will find this type of game sells very well. ..I have little doubt that 'deep' games will make it to the Wii too, just look at Zelda for a start. But hell, this, Wii Sports, and a few racing games (a WaveRace remix please!).. I'm sold.

Sweet. I've got this coming on DS, I'm sure I'll be spouting off somewhere around here about how it is.

It's pretty fun, but short. I think I still have a few recipes to unlock though, but I'm not sure how. For a quick pick-up-and-play kind of Wariowareish title, it's a lot of fun though. Plus I actually tried cutting an onion like the way they do it in game just to see if it was any easier than the way I usually dice onions. I'm still on the fence...

Some of the recipes are unlocked by making the alternate versions of the dishes. I don't know if there's any way to tell though.
