You think you got a handle on car customization in Forza? Are you as good as these guys? (http://tabwin.com/forza.htm) These designs are just amazing. All these designs are not bitmaps, but come from vector primitives done with the in game editor.
I've never been a big fan of the racing sim games, but I got a chance to play Forza over the weekend and now I'm hooked.
Some of those are pretty fugly, some of them gimmicky... but boy it speaks volumes as to the customization in the game.

I liked it so much that I went out and bought a wheel. I highly recommend getting a good wheel.

The in game editor allows you to make vector graphics to map to the cars? That's f'n awesome. I'm not normally a huge racing sim fan either (I stick to Burnout-type arcade racers), but I might have to check out Forza myself.

Ya it's pretty crazy, they give you maybe 50 or 60 shapes to work with and 100 layers to put them on for any section of the car (hood/top, rear, spoiler, left side, right side). Not only that, you get around 100 or so decals you can use as well.

I am very impressed. It's amazing that people have created these paint jobs from combining all the shapes provided in different layers to recreate logos and characters. You would start a online race then realise your amongst lots of hardcore custom cars...owned :D

Shit. I have been trying to not purchase this game, but the depth of car customization is boggling my mind. To anyone that has played the final version, just how sim like is the racing? I vastly prefer arcade racers, but if this game is close enough to that feel, I might just have to pick it up for the customization alone.
EDIT: Dismiss my question. I just read some reviews, and it does sound far to sim like for my tastes. I guess I will have to wait until Burnout Revenge.

This game is awesome. I will literally spend hours painting and applying decals to either my Acura NSX or Nissan 240sx.

It is fairly simmy, and I usually like the arcade racers...but something about this game is fairly gripping. You might want to give it a rent.

I've played a version on my friends chipped xbox and i'm glad i had a preview. It is very very good but it is very sim like. I had a flash of anger and tried to turn into a corner whilst over taking someone. I just eat gravel :( i knew it was going to happen but i wanted to try anyway :D
You would have to be a cool cucumber to get anywhere with this baby.
I think i may have been spoiled with the older Gran Turismo 1,2 and Burnout 3.
I still want to buy it though for some reason. I think i'm trying to tell myself i can be calm whilst racing other people and cars. I don't know i like racing to be adrenaline rushes and i didn't get any from this. I'm not making any sense. :p
Ooooo what shall i do!!!! It's out this friday in UK :o

While this is very 'simmy', it's also pretty easy to master. The game starts you off kind of teaching you, and as you go you'll feel like you've mastered the game. I love it to death and wish more people on this site would be talking about it.
There are point to point races which are absolutley fantastic. It reminds me of NFS:U, but a lot more realistic. And it's cool that you can tune a car to the point to where it becomes a drifting machine. There's also uphill climb and downhill races. These are kinda Rally-ish, and are a blast to play.

I remember doing crazy ass custom paint jobs like these on Moto GP 2 a couple of years ago. It looks like Forza took it to a whole different level though. I might have to pick this up, I find games in which you can own garages full of custom cars to be about the most addicting thing on the planet.
I prefer arcade racing but always liked the customization option in games like GT3, and you couldn't really do anything cosmetic at all. I think I will probably make this and Jade Empire my next 2 gaming purchases.

yeah, i have no complaints about this game, and i'll admit that i've spent more time with paint and decals than actual racing. i made a really baddass copy of the street fighter 2 e. honda bathhouse level and put it on the side of one of my cars. if i ever get a camera i'll link a pic.

Take a look at the game running on 3 LCD monitors (http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=10037366). Pretty impressive.

Don't forget, with the Xbox 360, we'll be able to buy cars like this for a buck. Man, I hope they don't go through with that.

The future of videogaming as we know it will be like a really pretty girl you had a crush on in high school and then after you graduate from college you see her fucking some guy in an alley for 10 bucks.
What I mean is, I'm afraid that some of these changes will eventually lead to outright pimping of the industry. Mario hawking Gatorade and Little Debbie, fan created cars selling for a buck or so apiece, downloadable content costing money (even though you pay for the online service AND the ISP you subscribe to that the online service in turn uses to let you buy such content--a 3 way fuck) 70 dollar videogames, and a focus on pounding out short sequels instead of creating innovative, original IP's and gameplay.
One again, the cynic in me fights against the dying of the light.
