Supreme Commander establishes a breathtaking new standard for sheer scope and scale of gameplay. Massive battles unfold across maps of unparalleled size and scope and thousands of units fight to the bitter end.
For a thousand years, three opposing forces have waged war for what they believe is true. There can be no room for compromise: Their way is the only way. Dubbed The Infinite War, this devastating conflict has taken its toll on a once peaceful galaxy and has only served to deepen the hatred between the factions.Check out 8 new Supreme Commander screens (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=38196) over at WorthPlaying.
If you haven't yet, check the SC walkthrough trailer (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=38077), narrated by Chris Taylor himself

Those are fabulous, not to mention fabulously huge.
Edit: hah, I've still not got used to this smaller monitor. They're just the standard 1280x.

Man that looks awesome. I cannot wait for this to come out.
Fileplanet/Gamespy is running a closed beta of SupCom for it's subscribers.... but I really don't want to subscribe just for this. :(

This is one of the games that I would upgrade my PC for. I've a P4 660 3.6ghz processor. I bet I will have to get at least get a extra gig to 2gb. Plus get rid of my 6800 video card.
Playing the game all washed out and with bad frame rate just isn't a option :D
For me this game is a must have PC title :p

Hopefully I got into the beta that was announced a few weeks back. I'm really looking forward to this, the media and info I have read seem to be pointing to a very nice put-together game.

Wow!
I got into the beta too. Chris said it opens in late Oct or early Nov. I guess they are preparing the match server or something right now.

You got a message indicating you got in? Or you just registered for the 'beta lotto'?

When I registered over at File Planet I got accepted right after I filled out the application form. I downloaded the client from the same page that told me that the open beta would start very soon and the keys would be released then. I'm highly looking forward to it.

This is my No. 1 Most Wanted game right now, and has been for a loooong time. Just watching the video of Chris Taylor talking about the game makes you realise just what a cool guy he is.
He just wants to make games where you blow shit up. Not quite sure how Dungeon Siege came about, but Total Annihilation and (presumably) Supreme Commander are all about huge cool fights.

Oh damn. Well.. I wasn't going to pay fileplanet to play a beta, I sent some info to the SC website a few weeks back. I guess I'll find out sooner or later ;)

Wasn't this game playable in dual screen (aka beef up your system mode). That was so cool. This game alreadfy looks amazing btw.
I'm not into PC gaming at all at the moment, but this game I'm even willing to buy.

Cannot wait to play this! TA is still my absolute favorite RTS and one of my most played games ever. It's great to see someone so enthusiastic about making a great game.

This game is caining my system, i mean this isn't a too slopy rig but even with everything turned right down (still looks rather good) when you get towards the endgame just with the number and scale of units it has to keep track of it turns in to a slide show :(

How does having battles of 1000 units enhance traditional RTS Gameplay?
Especially if at the end of the day these 1000units end up acting as a single unit with lots of AI help to manage them?

You can turn off the unit count limits. It comes with a limit of five thousand for all but can be changed or limit removed entirely.

Especially if at the end of the day these 1000units end up acting as a single unit with lots of AI help to manage them?Let me put it this way: would you prefer battles with millions of units, or battles with a few dozen? As he says in the interview, he wants to do strategy, and that necessitates large numbers. Otherwise it's strictly tactical, like Dawn of War.
As for your assertion that a thousand units will act as a single unit, that's totally wrong. To give the briefest of examples, small units exhibit behaviors like swarming and incremental destruction, as opposed to a single large unit, which can only be at one place at one time, and gets destroyed all at once. And there are tons of other differences, like construction tradeoffs, mobility/transportability, ability to focus firepower (the huge spider in the trailer demonstrates this), etc.
