From Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/26/wal-mart-selling-guitar-hero-ii-early/):

Some dude from an Arkansas Wal-Mart has posted pictures on the Gamer Age forum of his local store currently selling Guitar Hero II some two weeks before its official release on November 7.

Though we haven't checked our local Wally World, hopefully this is a nation-wide street date break and not just a Razorback/Natural State exclusive. In any case, hurry quick before the retailer fixes the early blunder!

And yes, there's a picture there with a bunch of boxes of Guitar Hero II in a Wal-Mart ready to be bought. It's worth noting that the picture only shows the game/guitar combo for sell. No mention of just the game itself.

The fact that I just talked myself out of taking a trip to Wal-Mart tells me that I might not be able to wait for the 360 version. :(

Can anyone in the chicago area confirm this? Wal-mart isn't that close around here.

The fact you talked yourself out of it, might mean you can. ;)

I am, and I really really want this game something fierce.

Just suck it up and buy both, that's what I'll be doing. I played GH1 so much over this last year that I can honestly justify buying a second GH2 in spring next year.

I check ONE Wal-Mart here in Montgomery, Alabama with no luck. Gonna check the other one closer to home this afternoon.

??? It was announced in Arkansas, not Chicago...

There's a Wal-Mart kinda close, but I don't really care enough to go and check it out. Sorry :(

That was my plan, I figure by the time the 360 version comes out I won't mind that I already bought the PS2 version. I forgot that I plan on getting GH2 for my brother for Chirstmas though...I'll just have to play the shit out of for the week or so that I'm home and hope it holds me over! :D

I checked the Wal-Mart near Penn Station and they didn't have it. It looks like a lone store broke the street date.

I'll be breaking away from my usual policy to avoid all things Walmart and drop by as soon as I'm off work. Here's hoping my small town Tejas Walmart also doesn't understand how street dates work.

Actually it's also available at Wal-Mart in Chicago Illinois, 8 copies at the time of calling. But probably gone by the time you read this ;P

Is the strangeness of Walmart carrying a game that features songs from Cds that Walmart will not carry?

wouldn't surprise me one bit if this Wal-Mart that is selling GH2 is in Fayetteville, AR (where Wal-Mart's corporate HQ is located).

edit: According to NeoGAF ... there are three stores that are confirmed by their members selling GH2 ... the original store, a store in Chicago, and a store in San Jose, CA.

Just checked my Walmart here in Tejas. No luck, the GH1 display got my hopes up though. As did the Extra SG Controller box. Tis a shame to go to Walmart for nothing, I avoid that place as much as possible.

Holy frijoles, that was weird seeing my state in a game news item. I actually JUST bought the first one 2 days ago. I never cared enough about the song list to get it before, but the sequel has plenty of songs I want to play, so I decided to pick up the original before II came out. Kinda wish I'd done so earlier...

MeelaPo would you just go to the closest video game store, buy Guitar Hero and join the worldwide phenomenon before we all murder you?

Anyone in the N. Washington area able to call a WalMart and see if this is available? I live up in Canada, but would be willing to drive down if this is legit.

Thats where i reside, Fort Smith. Is that the location of the store in the pics?

Doesn't surprise me though, i see movies and various hard street dated items broke all the time here.

As long as walmart has the product I want (like a video game), i'd rather go there and get it than say, best buy. it can be a pain getting someone to get the game out of the cage for you, but thats better than going elsewhere and having someone ask you to insure the game for $2, or asking you to sign up for a magazine subscription, reward zone, pre-ordering random future game, buying strategy guide, etc. etc.

Why not just order all your games online if you can't handle talking to someone doing their job for 4 minutes?

No GH2 at the Fort Union or the Murray Walmarts (Salt Lake City to the non-locals)

I really don't get people who complain about buying stuff from Best Buy, Gamestop, EB Games... etc. There is a chance that the guy behind the counter might ask you if you want something extra, you say "No" one time and it is over. There isn't anything more to it than that. There is no conversation. Question -> Response -> Exit.

You're from Fort Smith? I grew up there. I think it was the Supercenter on Rogers. I've got my little brother checking it out though.

Which is exactly why 9 times out of 10 I will buy my games from Fry's. Not only are they usually cheapest the week they come out but there's no cages, no annoying sales associates and rarely a pushy cashier. Walmarts (at least down here) are usually busy busy stores and for me its not worth the few bucks I'd save on groceries or $1.27 I'd save on a videogame to deal with the crowds and the lines and the employees.

I think you should go and check, fuckmook, to pick it up for your old buddy down here in Bolingbrook. PS3 is 3 weeks away!

But Reward Zone is free now! Every $250 you spend in the store or at BestBuy.com will bring you back a $5 gift certificate to use on your next purchase. Now, I know you're saying, "5 dollars isn't that much." But when you get a newly released CD for 3.99, you'll see why that 5 bucks rocks!

And with Guitar Hero, the insurance would be a good idea. Say your controller breaks or the buttons get stuck, pop out, get soda spilled in them, etc. We (Best Buy) won't only replace the controller, we'll give you the entire package at no additional cost. Sounds a lot better than buying a 40 dollar controller to me. And if you don't get to take advantage of the Product Replacement Plan you purchase, who cares? It's only a few bucks!

Concluding this thesis, I hope to see more people using their FREE Best Buy Reward Zone card this holiday season. OH, and if you have a Best Buy Reward Zone Mastercard, your points are doubled!!!

Thanks for bringing the lame sales pitch here. When I worked retail I despised having to ask people these relentless questions. I can't imagine taking it outside of work and to a forum I go to as part of my escape from work. This is the reason people prefer to shop online. Anywho, back on topic, has anyone else made the trek to Walmart and struck gold?
