Instead of posting boring unpacking pictures of the PS3, Spong (yeah I know) have actually done a preview (http://www.spong.com/feature/10109442).
It’s undoubtedly a beautifully finished, handsome machine – much better in the flesh than in pictures – with a classy piano-black finish and a chrome strip (which, we’re told, will only feature on the 60Gb retail machines). The ports are: Video Out, Optical Out (blanked on our machine), HDMI out and Network on the back; on the front, you get four USB port plus, under a flap next to the Blu-ray drive, Compact Flash, SD and Memory Stick.

Thats a neat little preview. I want a PS3 because I like new and shiny things. I really can't wait to get one home and unbox it (much like a Wii). My problem is I can't part with $600. Hell, I'll have trouble buying a Wii. I like my money.
Its interesting the game I'm looking forward too (Resistance) is the only one (granted, they got 3 games) that they seemed to really like. Which is good I guess.

Just take a quick look at any PS3 news item featuring Reanimated, Vanadeh and Kamalot. :D

Good to see another positive impression of Resistance. Insomniac really knows what they're doing with the diverse weapon types.

If by enemy you mean ballsy enough to not put up with Sony's BS on a regular basis, then I agree. I'm personally not about to find out what it must be like to kiss Sony's ass because of who they are!

Take Van den H. off that list, he is out of the reach for low-lives like Mr R. and Mr K.

Honestly I think the case with Sony is more of a "who you know" kind of thing. If you know the right people you can get what you need.
I know personally I have tried and tried to reach out to their PR people and rarely if ever get a response. The only thing I've ever gotten from them was access to the SOE Press site.
And I'm not talking recently. I'm talking 2 to 3 years ago when I really started to make a push to get us more content they were non responsive.
I would LOVE to have more Sony coverage on this site that's both positive and first hand, but right now we can't. :(

But how you enjoy the taste of the Microsoft ass. :D (I'm just kidding fit's. Don't Schwarzenegger me.)
I don't think EvAv the site is the enemy of Sony. BA does a good job of keeping Sony news balanced lately. It's all the damn noobs lately that just jump thread to thread to get their giant crab jokes in.

Just out of curiosity, what does "not putting up with bullshit" and "kissing Sony ass" mean in context of a gaming website that uses user submitted news + comments, equate to?
"Finally, it’s worth noting that after maybe ten minutes of use, our PS3 does get pretty hot – an inevitable downside of the fact that it’s so quiet."
What happened to all those sites saying 'ITS SO QUIET AND COOL'.

You know, I've also tried to reach out to their PR department, but Sony are simply not interested in grassroots PR. I have the replies to prove it, but the less said about the absolute arrogance and superior tone of those replies, the better off we'll all be.

Speak it Fit!
If Sony would give Evil Avatar a sample PS3 to tool around with, it could go a long way to convincing people here that the machine is worthwhile. Keep your enemies close, they say.

It equates to everything on a personal level. There are people (and websites) out there who lap up anything Sony has to say like it's gaming gospel. My point was that I, personally, am not about to be swayed by Sony's arrogance.

Ah, good catch! What I meant was that my opinion of Sony will always be based on how I view them on a personal level and how they interact with me as an admin/news editor at EvAv. As intimated earlier, I've been taken aback at how Sony view independent and grassroots websites and media in general.

Let me guess: they view you guys as freeloaders looking to cop stuff off of them, right?
But don't traffic numbers, not incorporation, give legitimacy on the internet? It's frustrating that that's still not standard wisdom yet.

Partly that, yes. Even though EvAv has been around for ages.
There are other aspects to their reasoning, though, which don't really belong in the open. What I will say is that towing the Sony line is simply not an option for me on a purely personal level. It pretty much goes against my reasons for being part of the community here.

 Well, I'm disappointed you can't be more revealing than that (regarding Sony), but I understand. :)
I also don't see the bias here that other people see. I see a spade called a spade here, with only a precious few clear fanboys/shills. Sony has done a lot to shoot itself in the foot lately, but the rubber meets the road in just a little while now! :)

I didn't catch that when I was writing my response. My follow up question would then be why? If the point is to disseminate information, I would think getting a Wii and telling the minons all about it would a pretty good thing, yes?
I'm kinda surprised everyone just breezed over the earlier post citing the heat issue.
Why? Because of the rampant Sony bloodlust? I don't see how it's an issue, unless we start hearing about overheating problems. It's not surprising that the first wave of units would be inconsistant in managing heat. First-run defects are all too common now.

Man that thing is nasty. I kept wondering why I thought I had viewed something like it when I was a kid. But I finally remembered. The damn thing looks like an old Goldstar VCR hahahaha. Something about that silver running down the center. Just looks cheap to me. If you look at it from the side it looks like an old football collosium. But hey, as long as the games look mind blowing who cares...

I used to work for a video game website and tried for years to get love from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. The treatment we received even in the sites infancy from Microsoft really changed the way I viewed them as a company. Their PR department was always trying their best to help us out, inviting us to events, and just about anything we needed. Nintendo was very, very by the book they have/had some very strict "laws" set in place that determined whether you got any attention from them. Once we met their prerequisites, we were in. We never got anything but snubbed by Sony. Sometimes it was reasonable, sometimes it seemed very personal, but everytime is was negative. I lost respect for them long ago.

i noticed it but i'm doubting it, because they didn't mention the composite cable which was shown in the pics from ign uk. i didn't see a component cable, but there was one cable i couldn't identify. i also doubt it because i'm guessing the audio out has a door over it, not blanked out. if they couldn't figure that out (and i'm just guessing from the ign pics, it just looked like a flap like other consoles/components have to keep dust out) it wouldn't surprise me if they confused composite and component. also, if they included component cables the need for hdmi in the box is kind of negated, so it's amusing that they mentioned no hdmi cable specifically.
edit: and why are all these previews coming out of the UK? they aren't even getting systems til next year sometime. where is the US preview love?

That would be very cool if true for all consumer models, too. I think it should be standard, so Sony shouldn't be commended if they include it. But it would take away another thing for people to beat on the PS3 about...which EvAv never likes. :)

Personally, I'd love it if Sony gave me less reasons to poop on them. Giving people decent cables in the overly expensive PS3 box is a good start. Lets all hope it happens. Some of you should even start holding your breath...NOW! ;)
