Wootly. Been waiting for a Canuck version of Gamefly. But how does this compare to say, Blockbuster, with no late fees? Also, 25 a month is a little expensive.

In the case of Blockbuster, you will eventually pay for the cost of the product if you never return it. At GetGames.ca you can rent out any games for as long as you wish. Since you are paying a monthly membership fee, no due dates and no late fees are the benefits you are guaranteed by the company. Say you rented Jade Empire and took 5 weeks to sit down and finish it. You are paying a month-to-month fee so it doesn't matter if you keep a game for more than one month. And you get 2 games out at a time for $24.95. if you add that up, over the course of one year, you pay less than $300 for an unlimited supply of games. With the average game costing $50, that's only 6 games in a year where you begin to save money!

Definitely an interesting development. Though I've always thought that Canada lacks the population critical mass to support this kind of structure. I also wonder how they'll support the 'new release' syndrome that most people fall into.

This is a very nice development for those of us (in Canada) who are close to blowing their mortgage payments to support their gaming habit.

I don't know about the wisdom of putting The Bouncer up as the showcase PS2 title on the main page though :)

And I wish the average (console) game cost $50 up here. Try $69 plus taxes. Maybe $59 if you're lucky... Sigh...

Yeah, that's true. But like all rental situations, at the end of the rental term, you're left with nothing but the memories.

Still, it sounds like a good system, and there are many games people would rather rent than buy.

The critical mass? Canada's packed with gamers. We spend half the year indoors playing video games, we're more broadband connected than the U.S. as well. There's definitely no problem for a market. The question is whether they will get enough advertising out there for this IMHO.

Well, I have my first two games on the way. I'll let you know how everything works out. Given that it just started yesterday and I only signed up yesterday, I'm impressed that they are so speedy.

Now I can try out Forza and Lego Star Wars without having to spend so much $$.

When my wife actually thinks that it's a good idea, I can't really complain. She's just happy I'm not wasting the mortgage money.
