Well it looks like Midway definitely hasn't given up on football even with EA's all consuming monetary mass. Sports.IGN has put up a video interview and a gameplay "trailer" showing the... class of Midway's new game...

You can find both here : http://sports.ign.com/articles/610/610844p1.html

This makes Any Given Sunday look like a wussie film...

I'm not really a sports games fan, but Blitz was always fun because of the lack of reality. You know, it's hard to not want to play a game where you can catch on fire and knock over linebackers. Well, hopefully Midway will just say "screw it" and make an all-out Blitz this time 'round.

Tricky, it definitely looks like they're going in that direction. I saw at least 1 WWE clothesline and 1 knee to the groin in that video. lol

heh, I liked it. Graphics look slick and animations are smooth. Football games are going to need an edge since they can't have the real teams/players now, this just might be the thing.

Blitz games were cool, till they started getting "real". Let's hope they get back to their roots instead of heading more down sim-land.

On a side note, they should do a next-gen Mutant League! That game rocked!

EA doesn't need to make any more football games, they have madden.

this years blitz looks like it's not *too* over the top. i lave the old blitz formula, but i think this isn't going in that direction. it reminds me of techmo bowl, where you had a psudo realistic football game, but if you fingers were fast enough you could repel the entire opposing team.

I just want to be able to have my players take steroids and have paparazi take pictures of the other teams quater back cheating on his wife and snorting coke off a hookers ass, thus forcing him to throw the game, or else the photos get published and he is humiliated.

It looks like it could be a brutal game, and it actully has me intersted.

Looks nice, I hope this game does really well.

I hope this game outsells EA's Madden, because there is nothing more I would like to see then a company beathing EA threw creativity.

Mmmmm. Blitz is one of those rare gaming experiences that appeals to everyone. No matter how skeptical they might be, the first time someone clotheslines an opposing player after the whistle, or takes down the receiver before the ball is thrown, they are instantly hooked. I am one of those people. I have absolutely no interest in football, but the Blitz games are so damn fun to play that it is irrelevant what the subject matter is. I hope, as it looks, that this game will be a return to the original over the top gameplay the franchise is so famous for. The last 'Blitz Pro' efforts have been disappointing [why in the hell would Midway try to compete with EA?], but I have high hopes for this title.
