Rockstar has announced Bully, the debut game of their Vancouver studio. As the title implies, Bully will take us back to the schoolyard on the PS2 and the Xbox. Check out the (few) details here (http://xbox.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view. php?id=8112).

Hmm.. from their short little description there it kind of reminds me of that old Commodore 64 game called "Skool Dayz" (or something like that). I don't remember much of the game, but I remember you could shoot spitballs and knock other kids of charis, write stuff on the chalkboards, beat up other kids, etc. I don't even remember if there was an objective... maybe just to get away with doing the stuff and not get caught or get other kids blamed for the stuff you were doing. I dunno.. I just remember it was a fun game.. hehe...

Yeah, Skool Daze and Back 2 Skool were the first things that popped into my head as well. It could be a bit small and limited but there's definitely plenty of potential for a fun game, depending on how un-PC it's going to be.

Rockstar continues to corner the market on games where you act like an asshole.

Wow, talk about an uninteresting game concept. And they 'fought hard' to keep it under wraps? Most likely that nobody in the media could be bothered to write an article about it. :)

Is there hookers involved? Because if there isn't then it isn't fun.

No offence here, but I honestly thought this was a joke.

I think you hit the nail on the whatsit with this one. What's next? Eco-Terrorist? KKK?

Actually, this is a great game concept. I presume that if a game does not have heroes in mecha armor with giant guns fighting demons then you don't like it. Any game that can break out of the stagnant shit genres of modern gaming is welcome in my book. The two deadest gametypes right now are military games, i.e. rainbow six, operation delta force, vietnam WWII games, yadda yadda yadda, and demon games like Doom 3, Unreal Tournament where you fight demons with giant ridiculous guns. Can't the game industry do better? It needs some fresh ideas. I knew as soon as I read this article that most people wouldn't get it.
"huh? no gunz??!! this game suxxorz!1!!"
But it has all the elements to make an interesting concept. Nice job Rockstar! Now don't mess it up!

I'd like to remind everyone that you don't actually play as the bully here.

I wonder how they are going to pull this one off...

Do you see 1337 kiddies around here? No, you do not. Not one person has even come close to saying anything about this game sucking due to lack of gigantic guns or the like, much less breaking into leet lingo. It simply does not strike me as an interesting concept. I agree that certain genres are played out, but Rockstar or any other developer could come up with a more interesting concept than this.

Then again, who knows? This game could fucking rock, never know until you play it.

You said it before I could. I thought it would be funny to be the jackass, not the victim.

If you could play as the bully - then they could add in some interesting variables. The end game coudl include some sort of uprising by the other students whose lives you have made hell - will you end up tied to a chair and forgotten in the closet, or lead a revolution that takes over the school and remakes it in your image (like some crazy hitler-esque leader)

I thought a lot of teenagers play games to escape from high school. As gamers I think a lot of us are familiar with being bullied, but never in my life after having my face pushed into a drinking fountain did I think to myself "They need to make a video game about this!"

See, I don't have the same memories from high school. All i do know, is that when i was pushing PixelSamurais face into the drinking fountain I was saying "Damn, they REALLY need to make a video game about this!"

i don't think it's a terribly bad idea, but they're just inviting copycat crimes with this one.

Just my opinion, but this is the gayest concept I've ever heard of for a game. I'd rather plug in my old Sega CD and fire up Sewer Shark

Good, bad, or buggy, it doesn't matter. Its just going to end up as footage on the nightly news that they can play on a continuous loop while discussing the latest "vidya game related tragedy."

I personally think this debate is retarded until we have more information to go on: screens, features, maybe a nice FAQ, etc...

I don't think they'll be parting with their precious DOOM and Mortal Kombat clips just yet...

I think the attraction to this is going to be directly proportional to the number of years you are distant from High School.

Personally I'd enjoy a bit of retrospective schoolyard fun. But then I've been working for a living for a decade and a half.
