Version 8 of the widely popular Half-Life 2 sandbox mod Garry's Mod has been released. Garry's Mod v8 includes major new features, not least a conversion to the HL2DM codebase to give you less lag and more functionality if and when you play online.

It's out!

Version Eight adds a lot of new stuff - too much to go through here.. I'm sure half the fun is figuring it out for yourself so I'm not going to write any huge guides. One thing I need to stress is that you need to press and hold Q in game to show the new spawn menu.

You can view the massive changelog by clicking here (http://www.garry.tv/garrysmod/changelog.php). There are probably one or two changes that didn't get added to the changelist for whatever reason - but it's mostly all there.

And yes, you can download right here (http://www.garry.tv/garrysmod/download.php)!
Other highlights include a new menu system, the ability to change the physics properties (bounce, friction etc.) of any object, a nail gun which does exactly what you think it does, making ragdolls into statues that can be thrown about (or welded onto vehicles as headpieces) as you please, a bloom postprocessing shader, and more.

If you were crazy enough to give HL2 a miss, Garry's Mod should be enough to tip the balance...

Has anybody found out what Gordon Freeman's weight is in the game yet?

Limits? Please, do go on... What kind of limits?
I like the previous versions, but is this one somehow toned down?

I don't know what he's talking about, myself.

WTF is a "sandbox" mod?

The main post seemed, IMHO, to be pretty deviod of information for those of us who aren't already playing this mod. Why would Garry's Mod convince people to buy HL2?

Why would Garry's Mod convince people to buy HL2?Probably not, but it's great fun for anyone who would love to mess around with almost all aspects of the game; physics, models, vehicles, weapons, etc. Depending on your interests, it could keep you amused for minutes or hours, but regardless I would say you're almost guaranteed to laugh your ass off at least once after installing this.

Not if you know what sandbox means. ;)
