Great another adventure game to sink my teeth into, unfortunitly most of the ones that come out now are nothing more then budget titles.
*sigh*
oh well I guess it's back to Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island Series

honestly i've never been more dissapointed in a game i've bought than tlg1. the only way i can understand why it was hyped so much was because all the budget adventure titles have made expectations rock bottom

I loved the setting and the characters in the game. Syberia on the other hand had me bored real fast, though I could appreciate the quality of it.

Disregard what ElectricMonk said. If you haven't played TLJ, go buy it now. If you can find it, it should be like $9.99 or less. One of the best adventure games ever made.
As to Dreamfall, I'm hopeful but I don't want to get too excited just yet. We'll see how well the action elements work out.

My God, could worthplaying possibly spew any more hyperbole?

I can't seem to connect to worthplaying right now. Or for that matter the past two hours. At any rate TLJ was and is my favorite computer game of all time. Which means Dreamfall has some impossibly large shoes to fill. From what I hear Funcom is bastardizing the game to include first person perpective and action scenes. Which really could not go more against the things I loved about TLJ. I hope it can be a worthy sequal but I doubt it at this point.

I absolutely loved TLJ.

I did enjoy the Syberia series, but nowhere near as much as TLJ. While Syberia 1 was just long enough to be interesting, I felt that the second was rather short and they should have just put parts 1 & 2 together to make a full game.

I really miss the funny Lucasarts adventures of old... sigh... Psychonauts made me long for the good ol' days where you didn't need any crazy 'platforming' or 'action' to have a good adventure game. Awesome game, Psychonauts. I just wish the straight-up adventure genre wasn't in such a sorry state.

We're probably looking at a change similar to the last broken sword game. I think that worked out ok, although on paper, it too sounded pretty horrendous when thinking about what it was a sequel too...

Dreamfall is set in the 23rd Century, where a young woman, wearing only her panties, accidentally uncovers a conspiracy related to dreams...

Anyone else still looking for the "unparalleled 3D visuals"? If I remember right Siberia looks better than the screen shots they have, which is pretty weak considering that's last generation's graphics.

I really liked the first one. Never finished it though. I'm fairly sure the game broke because I couldnt do anything and no walkthroughs could help me :( I should try again though

there is much to like about TLG. the european city vibe in parts is among the best atmosphere in any game i've ever played, and some of the characters are cool, but never before have i endured such awful writing in hopes of seeing what everybody else was making a fuss about.

imagine a PC 'female-issues' movie like something the W network would play, with dragons and dream elements as unintelligible metaphors for dealing with daddy issues, written by a guy who's primary female interaction is the blogs of buttertroll psychology students, which is recapped to you every time a single new plot element is uncovered and you'll have an idea of the quality of writing you have here

to add insult to injury once you finish the game it unlocks some outtakes from voice recording, and one is titled "why you don't let actors ad-lib" and it happens to be only dialogue that made me laugh. obviously it was cut because it was remotely interesting.

so basically what i'm saying is, you may love this game if you have no balls

Well you don't even remember the name so lets say you don't remember anything at all. While we're at it lets not mention generations either, because that is a load of bullshit. On a PC, Dreamfall at 1600x1200 or higher with FSAA and AF will be incredibly, Shader 2.1 or 3.0, DirectX 9.0, all should make the excellent modelling and texturing look better than Syberia which was for the most part prerendered.

Newport being a fictional American city, is obviously going to have a "european city vibe" which must be a different Europe to the one I live in.
unintelligible metaphors
Of course, if they weren't metaphors, you'd be a complete dick.
