Good. Sweet. Lord. Look at that controller. It looks like it was a joint venture between Nyko and Gravis except instead of employees they got monkeys to make the design. It looks really uncomfortable. I suppose its something you cant tell right away, like, until you hold it, but man, look at it!

It's actually more comfortable than it looks. I don't quite like the feel of it as much as the Xbox S controller but it's not bad. This is actually one of the controllers I got to test at a usability study that MS did a while back. At that time though, they claimed is was for a wireless controller they were making for the current Xbox.

I'm not entirely sold on the look of the system though. I don't really care for the white. I think they should've stuck with black.

why do i get the feeling every little thing we're seeing is gonna be sold separately for $29 bucks a piece or something crazy? camera, headset, media remote, extra controllers. oh well, nothing new i spose. by the way, i'd prefer platium or traditional black. i'm sure the white looks fine in person, but definately not my first choice. anywho, just bring on project gotham 3 and perfect dark zero (unless they screw it up) and i'll be all set and feel like i got my money's worth.

has anyone submitted a newspost about that stuff about the Revolution...i read about a developer that spouted off quite a bit of info (via the Gamespot Newsite) about the upcoming system. Sounds nice, like squeezable, touch sensitive controllers, a headset that comes FREE with the system, an online service that will rival MS Live's BUT BE TOTALLY FREE, and voice recognition.

I'm too lazy to post all that shit. Go read it on Gamespot if you havent already and come back with a newspost. I'm more excited about that stuff and I dont usually get like that...I was thinking Nintendo was on it's last legs, but if it can pull this off MS could lose it's 2nd place crown. FREE Nintendo LIVE?? Now that's awesome.

This stuff looks great but all standard fare IMO. The wireless controllers have been around for ages, back in the 16 bit days, but now they are starting to catch up to the mainstream. The industry is evolving, albeit slowly. I cant wait until all 3 systems are out--i want to see what's brought to the table.

I'm not a big Nintendo fan, or at least havent been since the N64's awful antialiasing and the abysmal 3rd party support and small gaming library for the GC. I own them, but wasnt as impressed as I was with the Sony machines, and now Xbox. But ...somehow now I'm hoping Nintendo can reclaim a portion of it's crown due to it's risk-taking attempts to innovate, while everyone else is content to sit in their own profitable stagnation.

Wow, went off topic.

Not impressed. Maybe it's the lighting. But the console just looks blah to me. SAme with controller. Same with remote. Kinda generic looking.

Nintendo's system is going to be a shape so bizarre that space cannot even hold it in place and collapse inwards. XBox's concave shape will probably serve as a giant contact lens for the Jolly Green Giant. The PS3 will most likely be revealed as a portable PSP battery pack with wheels that will allow the battery to last an extra three seconds. Handtruck not included.

I think you guys are missing out on the whole point with the color scheme on the xbox. They posted that pic which would imply that they will have different face plates for the box, and they are probably banking on that. You can see most of the new box is white, aside from the drive cover, which looks to be black or maybe polished silver. I wouldn't e surprised if it came with a darker colored faceplate at purchase.

I don't think it could get much smaller, all those cpu's, the GPU a power supply to run it, and a dvd drive? Looks okay, not spectacular but not bad. Having taken appart the PS2 and the Xbox, MS knows a good internal design while sony... no wonder there are 12 versions of the ps2. I would not be surpised if the PS3 is this sized too, those cells are probably fairly hot and power hungry.

To all the people that don't like the white, I can't remember where I read it, but some MS person said in an interview that the 360 will be very personalize-able which I take to mean, among other things, that there will be ways to change its color to your liking.

I'm putting my money on the "X" symbol that is featured on the controller and remote as a new control scheme akin to a trackball that can control a cursor on-screen. Looks like the 360 will be very Media Center-ish with the start button and that kind of functionality (not that this is a bad thing). This will really push the XNA development format across the PC and dedicated systems to a new level. This could be great...

Rommel
05-08-2005, 10:42 AM
What happened to the trackball? And did anyone else notice the expansion port coming from the button of the controller? And what is that device at the button of the screen with the wire? And why is it suddenly white not chrome?!

The truth is out there...

Im getting concerned about this this trend of size reduction and those that support it. If you look at the console size comparison (http://img192.echo.cx/img192/4697/vs2yx.jpg) link, youll notice that the xbox 360 is smaller than the ps2. I know this has already been mentioned, but this doesnt seem to have hit home with some of you. now, i want you to go find your ps2, or a friends, and hold in front of you. the new xbox will be smaller.

Now, look at this. (http://img.engadget.com/common/images/1488407751772606.JPG)
As you can see, the new xbox controllers, handle to handle, span about half the length of the console. The old ps2 controllers, handle to handle, span about half the length of their own console. now, if the xbox 360 is smaller than the ps2(length wise), then the xbox 2 controllers are going to be smaller than the ps2 controllers.

With that fact established, I wish to communicate the following:
I DO NOT CARE HOW SMALL YOUR HANDS ARE, A CONTROLLER SMALLER THAN THAT OF THE PS2 IS UNNECESSARY. IF YOUR HANDS ARE SMALL ENOUGH THAT YOU REQUIRE A CONTROLLER SMALLER THAN THAT OF THE PS2, YOU ARE PROBABLY EITHER TOO YOUNG TO BE USING THE INTERNET OR ARE POSTING FROM MUNCHKINLAND.
thankyou.

It's the hookups for the headset. If you go to Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000200042615/) they have a close-up that shows it better. Thanks for the comparison link chechenepiphany. It looks as though the plug could be for a USB cable. This would make sense, as MS has stated on several occasions that the new controllers would be compatible with PCs and their new XNA development platform. Of course, this could be way off base along with everything else we supposedly know. Sigh, too many questions and still four days until they are answered.

Looks just like a USB plug. I wonder if that is a PC adapter or if it connects to the console? It would make more sense for MS to use a non-USB port on the 360. Anyway, if it is USB it can be used to recharge the controller battery.
