GameSpy posted an excellent interview (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/quake-iv/611006p1.html?fromint=1) with Raven Software project and art lead Eric Biessman and Kevin Long as well as id Software designer Tim Willits. It covers the early designs and inspiration of Quake 4 and helps put to rest any fears people may have over the game looking similar to Doom 3. Included in the interview are a couple of new shots showing off the Marines and the Stroggos architecture.

Of course they are going to say that.

Just building hype and the game review websites will give it 9.4-9.9

Ya the negativity here sometimes is ridiculous..there was a time when people would be really hot for this game to be made and to have some team like Raven making it. I personally can't wait to play it.

Anything id related sucks. If you do not know this you are not internet cool.

Well, the interview was at least fairly good as those things go, I still don't know exactly what to make of Quake 4, as Raven makes good games, but most FPS games now have to have a gimick besides shooting things, so what will Quake 4's gimick be?

A flashlight duct-taped to a gun?

As all the hype of the game revolves around who is involved and that it is Quake, and uses Doom 3 engine, nothing about gameplay besides they are trying to make it intense, I would like some hype for the game, and not just everything around it.

All these screens are so old. Just look in the November issue of PC gamer to see all of them and more.

It used to be the other way around. Remember how Q3A was announced and people were swearing by it before it ever came out?

Personally, I am an id fanboy. Their games to me are all about fun, and I have more of that with their games than anyone else's.

What I like about these screens is that they are becoming not-so plastic looking. Doom 3 undoubtedly looked like plastic, but these are becoming more detailed and life-life, I suppose.

Yep I remember Jad, not only has it changed but history has been rewritten with all the Q1 and 2 bashers.

I would like the single player gameplay to be something like Heretic but with better AI.

I have faith in Raven. As far as developers go, I actually own more of their games than any other developer (including id software).

Over the last couple of years, they've managed to make good games in an admittedly tired and over-crowded genre. I'm definitely a fan of FPS games and I play alot of them, but in the last few years it seems like I don't get past alot of demos anymore.

Still, I am not as excited about this game as I was about previous Quake incarnations, but I am looking forward to playing it anyways. Hopefully there will be a demo before or at the same time as the full release...

It says that it will have some outdoor area's that are pretty bright. This way we can see what the Doom 3 engine can do with bright lighting and outdoor area's. Maybe that will encourage more people to sign up the engine for more games.

Note: Under the first picture the caption reads "While some characters will look familiar, the marines have gotten an upgrade from Quake 2 to Quake 4"

Here's my question has gamespy always been this moronic

What's odd about that statement? Maybe I'm looking too closely that I'm just not seeing it. But to answer your question, no, GameSpy used to be PlanetQuake and that was all they were dedicated to.

Remember the Unreal.org fiasco? Those were good times.

Until I've played it everything sucks. After I've played a game I may find that it sucks less than everything else. If you can't handle skepticism and hostility towards a game you are anticipating, you should perhaps find your news elsewhere. ID, Raven, Nintendo, Bungie, whatever: Not immune to criticism. If a criticism has no real basis, refute it. If you just want to claim people are stupid and wrong for not sharing your opinion, shut up.

Thx for educating us Mr Slim , the problem is people automatically say the game sucks before they play it or even play the friggin demo. So without me playing it yet the only way I can refute that type of idiot logic it is to say to those people STFU and please don't waste everyones time posting dribble.

I like these screens alot. Raven decided to put alot less specular highlights in everything, which goes a long way for a game like this.

I guess you can't expect an old franchise title to push any meaningful boundaries.

But no mercy to new stuff like Prey~
