Following some of the PS3 announcements from yesterday's event, Phil Harrison sat down for a short interview with GameInformer (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200610/N06.1020.0105.24629.htm) . Topics range from media playback, downloadable media, casual gaming, and the extent of region-free gaming in the PS3.

GI: Sony is entering the casual game space, and you’ve shown a few original games, and downloadable PS1 games. Are PS2 games planned as well?

Harrison: Initially PlayStation 1 game images can be downloaded and enjoyed on your PSP. We’ll have an upgrade to the PSP firmware in November which gives you that functionality. In the new year you’ll be able to do that with PlayStation 3. I think it’ll be a little ways off until we do that with PlayStation 2. The image size of the discs is a little bit larger. But obviously we’ve got backwards compatibility day one out of the box.

Here's my question: We're getting Castlevania Symphony of The Night on Xbox Live. I'm guessing there is no inherent PS1 emulation inside the PS3, right? They're just creating an emulator to play the game they same way they are for 360? If that's the case, then would we be seeing all the same PS1 games on Xbox Live as well as at the PS Store?

The quote I thought was funny:

Game Informer: I have a question about the interface, that you displayed today…

Phil Harrison: Did you like it?

GI: I do like it. I got used to it with the PSP.

Harrison: Yep. Good. (emphasis mine)

I like how he said he "got used to it with the PSP".

I would have asked why are they rehashing the crappy interface. If you end up playing a shit ton of games with saves, have lots of music, etc., it going to be a pain to manipulate those files, or find the one you need to use, etc.
