Just got word from TheLastBoss.com (http://www.thelastboss.com/post.phtml?pk=1373) that Will Wright is streaming some gameplay of Spore Live...right now! Head over here (http://live.poptech.org/webcast.html) to watch the stream.

TheLastBoss.com (http://www.thelastboss.com/post.phtml?pk=1373) has a summary of what's been seen so far.+Your creature creations will be turned into cards, which others can collect and try out in their games

+The physics and fluid engines breaks all the rules and doesn't take any memory at all cause Will Wright is amazing

Update: Vidcast is over, but TheLastBoss.com still has a summary.

ooooooh.

Was it only a quick thing? I only saw a person speaking on people interacting in real life or something.

Yah, this is the guy who posted the story on TheLastBoss - unfortunately the Will Wright part of the event is already over and they have now moved onto other technology speakers :( Was great to see some new video of the game though. Most of it was all old news, but he went a little in depth with the card system so that was fun. The conference was, and still is, real laid back. I'm still watching it and enjoying it.

Whats wrong with cards?

All they are is cards for the world somebody already made so you can try it out. Sounds like a good idea to me.

when i hear the word 'card' i automatically think of that pc Battlesomethingorother cards game and that type of gameplay. which is something i personally don't care for. or maybe its the pokemon card games and that kind of stuff.

just a personal preference, i'm sure plenty of others love the style though.

I had forgotten all about the card thing. If I remember right, it doesn't actually have anything to do with the gameplay. It is just something you can look at that gives information about various stuff you've seen, like trading cards. I think they can be printed out as well.

He may of mentioned the possibility of a CCG type of game with the cards, but again they are things you print out, and have nothing to do with the actual gameplay of Spore. If I remember right.

They're not cards like the popular trading card games, they're cards like punch cards, containing the blueprint(s) of somebody else's spore world.

PathMaster

When I heard the functions of these 'cards' I understood that they are basically save games of a sort. Nothing wrong with that. I would love to see what other do in a game such as this. Let your imagination run wild. I want to see how fooked up we all are.

Yeah, they are not battle cards, they are scenario cards. You load a card, you get a scenario. Still sounds cool to me.

Yah, the cards have nothing to do with gameplay, purely blueprints of past creations like others have mentioned. So for those of you who have to get EVERYTHING in a game.... good luck.

With procedurally generated content based upon user input, it is impossible to get everything in a game. :p

Perhaps that is what you meant?

It's EA, isn't it? They're almost sure to screw it up somehow...I hope they don't.

I'm thinking they leave him alone to do things he wants. With all the money the Sims has made for EA the last thing they want is for him to walk and start up another studio.

They'll just release 5 expansions for the game.

If you were able to sit down in front of "Raid on Bungeling Bay" 20 years ago, and not get a kick out of it, I would be forced to conclude both the "gaming" and "fun" sectors of your brain to be terminally damaged, and you could go back to your Barbie Horse Adventures, or whatever you consider fun.

If you're too young to know it, and have only tried the sandbox sim-oriented Will Wright games, well, you get off on a technicality then. We'll save the padded room for when we catch up on Zeal. :D

This game might the the next big milestone in gaming history.
Will Wright is fucking midas. Anything he does is pure gold. And makes money like crazy.

Mark my words, children.

I just wish he and the Sid-meister could hook up and make a game... Hell, bring along the Moly-monster, they should be able to keep him under control.

Glad I kicked that addiction, sad to be so consumed with a golfing game when I HATE golf.

Will EA be bundling in their lovely new spyware into this as well? I assume that all EA published games from this point on will have it stuck in there. Don't need any of that thanks.

See, kids? this is a stupid post.
You are hating a game because of something that happened in ANOTHER game... and even though they're from the same publisher, they're from different dev houses.

Please wait for more info before making a fool of yourself.

Like the news that the spyware is purely looking at how you behave in game, viewing the ads and such. I mean, bboy, did you have a problem with Valve noticing people having a problem with that bit of Ep 1? Was that due to spyware?

Storm, frankly, you are the one that is ignorant. Your posts are that of a whiny fanboy that continuously supports the developers and publishers regardless of the tripe they put on retail shelves. Demand some quality for your money, my friend. Have some respect for yourself.

bboy's question was quite valid, and one that many of us would like an answer to. Is spyware the official policy of all EA games now? Is this what PC gaming is coming to? Are gamers accepting this gross invasion of their personal privacy, or are they going to stand up for their rights?

These are important questions, of which you are oblivious to, apparently.

I, personally, would never buy an EA product, but bboy's question is one that many gamer's would like to see answered so they can know if they can start boycotting that particular game, or the entire comany, now, rather than waiting to see a slip of paper notifying them after they've bought the damn thing.

You on the other hand, must love to throw your money away without question. So, really, who is the fool here?

Don't be ridiculous.
I don't like Electronic Arts at all, but to already write off Spore because they added spyware to BF2142 is stupid. And that's got nothing to do with being a "whiny fanboy", but with not being illogical.
Seriously, fuck electronic arts, they're Evil, they shelved Wing Commander and single player Ultimas, they screw the employees, they make crappy sports games... I hate plenty of reasons not to like them at all.

So you're saying that I must act like a crazy irrational hater and never buy spore because of that?

Thanks very much, but Spore is a promising game being made by one of the greatest minds in gaming. And mind you, Will Wright has an unusual amount of freedom to make his games, so...
I see no reason to hate Spore yet.
